BIRTH DATE: April 18, 1976, Smithtown, Long Island, New York

CLAIM TO FAME: She is best known for her title roles in the television series Clarissa Explains It All (1991-1994), and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch (1996-2003).

FAMILY LIFE: She has been married to musician Mark Wilkerson since 2003. They have two sons: Mason Walter Wilkerson, born in January 2006, and Braydon "Brady" Hart Wilkerson, born in March 2008. On April 17, 2012, Hart confirmed they were expecting their third child.

INFO: At the age of four, Hart appeared in a television commercial for a bathtub doll named Splashy. This started her acting career, and she began appearing regularly in commercials. She appeared at a young age in the miniseries Kane & Abel in 1985, guest-starred in an episode of The Equalizer in 1986, and starred in the Emmy Award-winning TV movie Christmas Snow (1986).

It was in 1991 that Hart won the starring role on the Nickelodeon series Clarissa Explains It All, which met with success during its four-year run.

Following this, Hart started a college career at New York University, but didn't finish because she landed the title role for the 1996 TV movie Sabrina the Teenage Witch, which led to the successful television show of the same name which ran for seven seasons on ABC and The WB.

She then starred with Adrian Grenier in the movie Drive Me Crazy, for which Hart asked friend Britney Spears to do a remix of her song "(You Drive Me) Crazy" and add it to the movie's soundtrack. Hart also appeared in Spears' music video for the song.

Hart directed her first movie in 2005, a live-action short film called Mute, which starred her sister Emily. In 2007, she directed the "Anger Cage" video for her husband Mark Wilkerson's band Course of Nature. Also in 2007, she starred in the ABC Family Original Movie Holiday in Handcuffs, with Mario Lopez. This ended up being the highest rated program in the history of the network, with 6.7 million viewers.

Has sung on two rock-pop albums: "This is What Na Na Means" 1994) and "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch: The Album" (1998), and narrated a classical album for children, a recording of Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf" (1994).

Was named after the Allman Brothers song "Melissa".

Her middle name, Joan, came from her maternal grandmother.

Is the eldest of eight children with six sisters, and one brother.

Recorded two albums as Clarissa, This is What 'Na Na' Means and a recording of Peter and the Wolf.

WHERE IS SHE NOW: In 2009, Hart opened a candy shop called SweetHarts in Sherman Oaks, California. However, the shop closed in December 2011 due to a lawsuit from a former employee as well as 'scheduling difficulties,' and has since been reopened and operated under the same name by new owners.

In 2009, Hart competed in the ninth season of Dancing with the Stars, and was paired with pro Mark Ballas. She made it to the sixth week of competition before she was eliminated.

Since 2010, she has starred with Joey Lawrence on the TV sitcom Melissa & Joey.

In June 2012, St. Martin's Press announced that it had made a deal with Hart to publish her memoir Melissa Explains It All: Tales from My Abnormally Normal Life in the fall of 2013. Hart writes about growing up as a child actor, her rise to fame, her rebellious teen years, and how she has balanced her career with motherhood.
