BIRTH DATE: January 28, 1945, Basel, Switzerland

CLAIM TO FAME: Her most famous American film roles include Marathon Man, Black Sunday and Bobby Deerfield.

FAMILY LIFE: She has a son, Alexandre (born 1971), from her relationship with Philippe de Broca.

INFO: Some of Keller's early acting credits include Funeral in Berlin (1966, uncredited) and the German film Wilder Reiter GmbH (1967). In the 1970s, she appeared in the French films Un cave (1971), La raison du plus fou (1973) and Toute une vie (And Now My Love, 1974).

In American cinema, she is best known for her Golden Globe-nominated performance as Dustin Hoffman's girlfriend in Marathon Man and her performance in Black Sunday.

She appeared with William Holden in the 1978 Billy Wilder film Fedora and alongside Al Pacino in the auto racing film Bobby Deerfield. Keller has since worked more steadily in European cinema. In addition, she appeared in a Broadway adaptation of Abby Mann's play Judgment at Nuremberg as Mrs. Bertholt. This performance earned her a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress.

Keller has also worked in classical music as a speaker and opera director. She has performed the speaking role of Joan of Arc in Arthur Honegger's oratorio Jeanne d'Arc au Bûcher on several occasions. She also recorded the role for Deutsche Grammophon with Ozawa, recited the spoken part in Igor Stravinsky's Perséphone and performed classic music melodramas for speaker and piano in recital.

Her first production as opera director was Dialogues des Carmélites, for Opéra National du Rhin, in 1999. She has directed Lucia di Lammermoor for Washington National Opera and for Los Angeles Opera, and directed a 2004 production of Dio Giovanni at the Metropolitan Opera.

TRIVIA: Studied ballet as a child, but stopped after a skiing accident at age 16.

Modeled to pay the rent while studying to become an actress.

Received formal training at the Stanislavsky School in Munich.

Has been directing operas since 1999.

Was nominated for Broadway's 2001 Tony Award as Best Actress (Featured Role - Play) for "Judgment at Nuremberg."

WHERE IS SHE NOW: Keller still continues to have occasional acting roles in European cinema. In 2013, she appeared in the French thriller La marque des anges - Miserere. In 2012, she appeared in the comedy In a Rush.

In 2011, Keller played Leona Chew in the TV movie Page Eight and portrayed Lea in the TV movie La residence. Additionally, she appeared in the French film The Giants ("Les géants") as well as the German film My Best Enemy ("Mein bester Feind").
