CLAIM TO FAME: She is well-known for her role as Cora
Munro in The Last of the Mohicans.


FAMILY LIFE: She has been married since 1982 to actor
Brian Benben. They have one daughter, May Theodora Benben
(born 1996).


INFO: Stowe took piano lessons as a young girl as a way to
avoid socializing with other kids. However, when her music
teacher Sergei Tarnowsky died at the age of 96, she decided
to quit piano altogether and went to the University of
Southern California to study cinema and journalism. While
she was performing at a Beverly Hills theater, a movie
agent spotted her and found her several offers to appear
on television and in film.

Stowe acted in mostly supporting roles for many years,
until she finally got a little more recognition playing
the wife of Kurt Russell in the crime drama Unlawful Entry
in 1992. That same year, she played Cora Munro in The Last
of the Mohicans, which also starred Daniel Day-Lewis.

Director Robert Altman cast her in 1993's Short Cuts as the
wife of a compulsive liar and adulterous police officer
played by Tim Robbins. She has also played a blind musician
in the thriller Blink, a psychiatrist in the science-fiction
thriller Twelve Monkeys, and appeared in 1998's The
Proposition, and The General's Daughter in 1999.

TRIVIA: Her father suffered from multiple sclerosis.

Is half British (father) and half-Costa Rican (mother).

Chosen by Empire magazine as one of the 100 Sexiest Stars
in film history (#90). [1995]

Endorsed and campaigned for John Edwards in the 2008 U.S.
presidential election.


WHERE IS SHE NOW: Stowe and her husband own a working
cattle ranch outside of Fredericksburg, Texas. This is
where they spend their spare time. In 2008, Stowe helped
found Artists for Peace and Justice in Haiti. She is on
the advisory board of this foundation. In 2011, ABC cast
her in their drama pilot Revenge as Victoria Grayson.
