BIRTH NAME: Lois Cleveland Chiles

CLAIM TO FAME: She is known for her role as Dr. Holly Goodhead in the 1979 James Bond film Moonraker.

FAMILY LIFE: She has been married to money manager Richard Gilder since 2005.

INFO: While modeling, she made her film debut appearance as Robert Redford's on-screen college sweetheart in The Way We Were (1973), and reunited with Redford in The Great Gatsby (1974). She played the role of the attractive, cynical young golfer Jordan Baker.

Four years later, she appeared in the film adaptation of Agatha Christie's Death on the Nile (1978) as the murder victim Linnet Ridgeway Doyle. Lois's most memorable role to date is Bond Girl, Dr. Holly Goodhead opposite Roger Moore as James Bond in Moonraker (1979).

TRIVIA: Was the original choice for Agent Triple X (Anya Amasova) in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), but as a moment of fate, got her chance as the 007 girl in Moonraker (1979) after Lewis Gilbert sat next to her on an airline flight.

Before entering films, she was one of the very top models of the 1970s.

Studied at the University of Texas at Austin and the former Finch College in New York City, where she was discovered by a Glamour magazine editor and that led to her fashion modeling career.

She is very active in raising money for the research and prevention of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, particularly because her brother's life was taken by same.

Had a long-time involvement with but never married Don Henley of the Eagles.

In the spring of 2002, she taught a course in film acting at the University of Houston.

WHERE IS SHE NOW: Chiles retired from acting in 2006, but is still very active in the arts. She turned to painting. Working the old-fashioned way, Chiles spends hours with professional life models. Her works had a showing at Octavia Art Gallery in Houston in 2016.

Chiles and her husband are part of the board of the New York Historical Society and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. Plus, they are both honorary co-chairs of Northfield Mount Hermon, and they named the Chiles Theater after her.
