CLAIM TO FAME: She is best known for her portrayl of Billie Newman on the television series Lou Grant.

FAMILY LIFE:
Husband: William Grivna (m. 1967, div. 1972)
Husband: Glenn Strand (m. 1979, two children)

INFO: Kelsey began her career on stage in her hometown of Minneapolis, but she later headed to Los Angeles and won roles on television shows like Emergency!, The Rookies, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, M*A*S*H, The Streets of San Francisco, Barnaby Jones, Spencer's Pilots, Quincy M.E., and The Rockford Files.

She found success when the producers of the television series Lou Grant gave her the part of crusading reporter Billie Newman. She won five consecutive Emmy Award nominations (1978 through 1982) for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, losing four times to her Lou Grant costar Nancy Marchand and once to Kristy McNichol in Family.

Lou Grant went off the air in 1982 and Kelsey went on to play the lead role in the sitcom Day by Day (1988) as a woman who runs a daycare center out of her home. The show ran for two seasons.

In the 1990s, she made a guest appearance in the TV movie The Babysitter's Seduction and on several episodes of Murder, She Wrote.

WHERE IS SHE NOW: Kelsey returned to Minneapolis after her TV career slowed down, and began appearing in regional theater productions. She played the title role of Mary Stuart at the Park Square Theater.

In 2009, she played Sue Ann Nivens for a week in a Minneapolis theatre company's restaging of The Mary Tyler Moore Show scripts, including the episode in which she originally appeared.
