BIRTH DATE: October 15, 1946, Davenport, Iowa

CLAIM TO FAME: He is best known for his role in the Coen Brothers' neo-noir thriller Blood Simple (1984).

FAMILY LIFE: He has a daughter, Hannah, from his marriage to playwright Grace McKeaney.

INFO: Getz's first role was playing an attendant in a made-for-television horror film Killer Bees (1974). He moved to New York City and became active in local theater, and appeared as Neil Johnson for 18 months on the daytime soap opera Another World. He became well-known for his starring role in the Coen Brothers' neo-noir thriller Blood Simple (1984), as the lover of a married woman (Frances McDormand).

Getz has guest-starred in many television series, including the long-running Three's Company (1980) as Lee Tripper, brother of Jack Tripper played by the late John Ritter. More recently, he has guest-starred in How I Met Your Mother, Prison Break, and Private Practice.

Some of his other films include The Fly (1986) and The Fly II (1989), Born on the Fourth of July (1989), Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead (1991), Curly Sue (1991) and Men at Work (1990).

TRIVIA: One of four children.

Born and raised in the Mississippi River Valley of Northern Illinois and in Iowa.

One of his earliest roles was as "Shampoo Man" in a Johnson & Johnson Baby Shampoo commercial shot in the late 70s.

WHERE IS HE NOW: In 2007, Getz appeared in the film Zodiac, as well as in Bill Guttentag and Dan Sturman's documentary film Nanking as George Ashmore Fitch, head of the local YMCA and Administrative Director of the International Committee for the Nanking Safety Zone.

Most recently, he appeared in the 2010 film The Social Network, and the 2011 thriller Elevator. He also appeared on an episode of the new television series Scandal.
