BIRTH DATE: May 12, 1950, Elgin, Illinois

CLAIM TO FAME: He is best known for his leading role in the television series How the West Was Won.

FAMILY LIFE: Boxleitner was married to American actress Kathryn Holcomb from 1977 to 1987 and they have two sons together, Sam and Lee. In 1995, he married actress Melissa Gilbert. The couple separated earlier this year and the Associated Press reported in August that Gilbert had filed for divorce.

INFO: Boxleitner has had a long career in movies and television, and is well-known for starring in the TV series How the West Was Won, Bring 'Em Back Alive, Scarecrow, Mrs. King, and Babylon 5.

He also appeared on other TV shows such as the The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Gunsmoke, Judith Krantz's Till We Meet Again, Tales from the Crypt, Touched by an Angel, The Outer Limits and She Spies. He starred in The Gambler TV movie series and in the 1982 TV movie Bare Essence.

He appeared in many of the Babylon 5 films, including Babylon 5: In the Beginning (TV, 1998), Babylon 5: Thirdspace (TV, 1998), Babylon 5: A Call to Arms (TV, 1999) and the direct-to-DVD Babylon 5: The Lost Tales (2007).

Boxleitner played the title role in the original Tron, and appeared in a bunch of other films throughout his career. He played Confederate General James Longstreet in the 2003 film Gods and Generals. On television, he appeared in seasons three and four of the series Heroes, playing New York Governor Robert Malden.

TRIVIA: Attended Prospect High School in Mount Prospect, Illinois.

Went to the Goodman Theater School of Drama of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Has written two science fiction novels with a Western setting: Frontier Earth (1999)[4] and Searcher (2001).

Played a major role in the audio dramatization of The Great Secret, part of the Golden Age of Fiction series by L. Ron Hubbard.

Appeared in advertisements for Estee Lauder's "Lauder For Men."

In 2003, Boxleitner was appointed to the Board of Governors of the National Space Society, a nonprofit, educational space advocacy organization founded by Dr. Wernher von Braun.

WHERE IS HE NOW: Boxleitner reprised his Tron character for the sequel Tron: Legacy and in the video game Tron: Evolution which was released alongside the movie Tron Legacy. He also provided his voice for the video game Tron 2.0, and Disney/Square Enix crossover video game Kingdom Hearts II.

In 2010, he guest starred on the television series NCIS as Vice Admiral C. Clifford Chase. He currently appears on the television series Chuck as the father of Devon Woodcomb.

He is set to voice his Tron character again in the upcoming animated series Tron: Uprising.
