FAMILY LIFE: She has been married to Martin von Haselberg since 1984. They have one daughter, Sophie von Haselberg (b. 1986).

INFO: Midler studied drama at the University of Hawaii and kicked off her musical career by performing in gay bathhouses with piano accompaniment from Barry Manilow. She released her first album, "The Divine Miss M" in 1972. She found success as an actress after a powerful performance in The Rose (1979) as a rock-and-roll singer.

In 1986, she appeared with Nick Nolte and Richard Dreyfuss in the comedy Down and Out in Beverly Hills, and this began a series of funny movies, including Ruthless People (1986), Outrageous Fortune (1987), and Big Business (1988). She starred in the 1988 tearjerker Beaches.

Other films include the WWII drama For the Boys (1991), The First Wives Club (1996), the comedy Drowning Mona (2000), and the remake of The Stepford Wives (2004).

TRIVIA: Has an estimated net worth of $175 million.

Performed her cabaret act at the famed gay men's club, The Continental Baths, in the 70s with Barry Manilow as her accompanist.

Worked at a Dole pineapple processing plant in Hawaii in her early years.

Her first big album "The Divine Miss M" was produced by Barry Manilow.

Graduated from Radford High School, Honolulu, Hawaii in 1963

Majored in drama at the University of Hawaii at Manoa

Listed as one of twelve "Promising New Actors of 1979" in John Willis' Screen World, Vol. 31.

In June 2012, she received the Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award at the Songwriters Hall of Fame in New York in recognition of her having "captivated the world" with her "stylish presentation and unmistakable voice".

Midler will be co-starring alongside Billy Crystal in the movie Parental Guidance due to be released on December 25, 2012.

She auctioned her outfits and achievements from her 40-year career in November 2011 in order to raise money for the New York Restoration Project.

She hosts an annual gala benefit on Halloween that raises funds for New York Restoration Project (NYRP).
