Hello Music lovers,

I just read the coolest story about how one wacky band inspired John Lennon to return to recording during his long post-Beatles hiatus.

The Band?
The B52s.

Yes, that B52s! The guys famous for Love Shack, Own Private Idaho, and most importantly to this story, Rock Lobster. The story goes Lennon heard the tune at a disco and said it reminded him of the stuff he and Yoko liked. The B52s at the time said Yoko Ono was indeed an influence on the bands sound, and back then it was not that weird. She actually had some weird indie street credibility at the time, and the Yoko hate train came much later.

If you are not familiar with the new wave group and this song - get ready! It is fantastically weird with an infectious bass line that reminds you of the beach. The lyrics dont make sense but the music really propels you through it.

So after hearing the song, Lennon and Ono went on to record Double Fantasy. Another fun fact: Ono joined the B52s onstage once to do the famous shriek at the end of the song.

Pleasant Watching,

Yeah, they drop the F bomb in the chorus, but it's so darn catchy! Enjoy it, but maybe don't sing along at the supermarket.
