Recently I had to teach my daughter how to use a real razor and not an electric razor. The thought "there has got to be an easier way" definitely crossed my mind quite a few times during this process as I'm sure anyone in my position knows all too well! That prompted me to see if maybe with all advancement in technology and beauty products if there was something that would be easier for her out there. During that research I found some ways to shave without a razor, not all of which can be applied to a pre-teen, but all of which can be applied to women!
Waxing
This method has been around for a long time. Longer than razors I believe and is widely used still to this day. It is great for bikini areas and for eyebrows. The upside to waxing is that it actually removes the hair from the root, much like plucking, on a large scale and the hair takes a longer time to grow back then. The downside to this process is it can be painful! You can buy wax in any beauty supply store now. Heat up the amount you need in either a bowl of hot water (in a container) or in the microwave, put a layer on the hair you'd like to remove, cover it with a strip of paper and wait until it cools. When it does, just remove the paper strip from your skin!
Tweezing or Threading
This method is usually used for the eyebrows but really can be used on any small surface of your body as long as you have the patience for it! Take either the thread or a pair of tweezers and remove the hair that you desire from the root. This method, while time consuming more than others, does actually give you longer results. It usually takes a few weeks for these hairs to grow back once they have been plucked or tweezed, sometimes longer!
Creams
Creams are a relatively newer method for removing hair. These creams contain chemicals that actually dissolve the hair off of your body. To use these creams, spread the cream over the hair and wash your hands immediately. Do not let the hair sit more than 15 minutes. Remove the creams with a wash cloth and warm water when done. It's always best to test these products on a small portion of your skin that won't bother you too much first to make sure that there will be no allergic reaction since it is made of chemicals. These creams can be purchased at any beauty supply store, stores such as Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, etc. Each brand is a little different and some honestly smell better than others so if you get one you don't like at first, don't give up if this is the way you want to go!
Laser Hair Removal
This treatment is by far the most expensive treatment available. Laser hair removal takes a laser across an area of your skin and removes the hair follicles by sending a pulse to kill the root of the hair. This treatment by all accounts is actually painless though. In some cases, after 3 to 6 sessions this treatment can stop hair growth permanantly. But, before you think about doing this treatment, make sure to do extensive research. This is a much more involved option than any of the others!
