'Walking Dead' returns with record ratings

About 12.3 million viewers tuned in for the return of "The Walking Dead," setting a series ratings record for the Georgia-set zombie drama, AMC said. The show began the second half of Season 3 Sunday night. In addition to the 9 p.m. premiere, the show encored at 11 p.m., midnight and 2 a.m., delivering a total of 16.6 million viewers for the night, the cable network said. The previous ratings high for the Andrew Lincoln-Norman Reedus show was 10.9 million viewers for the Season 3 premiere Oct. 14, 2012. "When you look at numbers like this, the first thing that comes to mind is how grateful we are to the fans of this show. They embrace 'The Walking Dead' in a way that we wanted to believe was possible but we never take for granted," Charlie Collier, AMC's president, said in a statement Monday. "The cast and crew put everything they have into making this show. They're a phenomenally talented group who truly give their all. We congratulate everyone involved."

Braxton says she's retiring from recording

U.S. singer Toni Braxton says she doesn't plan to record any new albums because she wants to pursue an acting career. "For what I do, I have to love it. I have to feel that excitement and it's gone," the entertainer told theGrio. "I'm just not going to do any albums anymore; maybe touring occasionally here and there because I love performing, but not as much as I did in the past. But no new projects." Braxton, 45, has sold more than 60 million records worldwide, won six Grammy Awards, competed on TV's "Dancing with the Stars," starred in the reality show "Braxton Family Values" and headlined the Broadway musicals "Aida" and "Beauty and the Beast," E! News noted. She also has, in recent years, made headlines for filing for bankruptcy and for battling the autoimmune disease lupus.

'Storage Wars' star Mark Balelo found dead

"Storage Wars" cast member Mark Balelo has committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning in Simi Valley, Calif., TMZ reported. One of Balelo's employees found his body Monday morning in his car, which was parked and running in the garage at his auction house, the celebrity news website said. He apparently had been distraught following his arrest Saturday for a drug-related offense, TMZ said. An autopsy on Balelo's remains is scheduled for Tuesday. Balelo is known for wearing flashy clothes to auctions on "Storage Wars," a reality show which debuted on A&E in 2010. The series follows people who buy the contents of unpaid storage units as single lots, then try to re-sell items individually for profit.

Dancing with the Stars Cast Announcement

The next gaggle of celebrities to compete on TV's "Dancing with the Stars" will be announced Feb. 26 on "Good Morning America," ABC said Monday. Season 16 of the dance competition series is to kick off March 18 with a 2-hour episode. "The competition begins with 12 new celebrities who will brave the 'DWTS' dance floor for their very first time," ABC said in a news release. "Leaving their comfort zones and enduring grueling rehearsals, these new competitors will work to master creative and entertaining performances and world-class choreography, all while receiving critical judgment on the unforgiving ballroom floor and in front of America. In the end, only one star will rise above the rest to be crowned champion and awarded the coveted mirror-ball trophy." Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke-Charvet will once again serve as co-hosts of the show.

It's Ted Nugent

A Republican congressman from Texas says he invited gun- advocate rock musician Ted Nugent to be his guest at President Obama's State of the Union address. Rep. Steve Stockman, himself a strong supporter of gun rights who introduced a bill last month to end all federal gun-free zones around schools, said he was sure Nugent "will have plenty to say" following Obama's Tuesday night speech, The Detroit News reported. "I am excited to have a patriot like Ted Nugent joining me in the House chamber to hear from President Obama," said Stockman, who also has threatened to file impeachment legislation against the president for pushing gun control. Nugent, well-known for his fondness for guns, said at the National Rifle Association convention in St. Louis last April that if Obama were to be re-elected, he would "either be dead or in jail by this time next year." The avid hunter also has been fined in Alaska and California in recent years for illegal hunting activities, the newspaper said.
