Viola Davis on daughter wanting to become an actress: 'I don't want to choose that for her'
Viola Davis says her five-year-old daughter Genesis is already planning for a career in the entertainment industry.

"She says she wants to be an actress," Davis explained to E! News before being honored with a Navigator Award at the Maui Film Festival.

"[She says], 'I gotta live the words, I gotta breath the words, I gotta remember the words,' and I said, 'Yeah and you also gotta go to school and get out of this house and pay your own rent,'" Davis said, adding that acting is not something that she would force onto her child.

"I just think this is a terrific profession. The work is fantastic, but the lifestyle? Eh. I don't want to choose that for her at a young age."

The 50-year-old How to Get Away with Murder star said she also dreamed of becoming an actress when she was young.

"I hoped, I dreamed but I didn't know. I just felt like the dreaming and the hoping would be enough and I think for the most part it is. I think that's what makes you get up in the morning and keeps you working and keeps you excited and in it and passionate and I think it's the passion that carries you through life."

Davis will next be seen as government official Amanda Waller in the DC Comics villain-focused action film Suicide Squad alongside Will Smith (Deadshot), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn) and Jared Leto (The Joker), whom Davis previously praised for helping to inspire her performance through the use of surprise gifts he gave to the cast on set.

"He gave some really horrific gifts. He had a henchman who would come into the rehearsal room, and the henchman came in with a dead pig and plopped it on the table, and then he walked out. And that was our introduction into Jared Leto," she said of the dead animal gifts.

"Now I'm terrified as a person thinking 'Is he crazy?' but the second part was 'Oh [expletive]! I got to have my stuff together.' You talk about commitment and then he sends Margot Robbie a black rat. It was still alive in a box. She screamed, and then she kept it," Davis continued.

Suicide Squad opens in theaters Aug. 5.

Which singer quit Twitter and Instagram after criticism?

Cindy Crawford recreates iconic Pepsi ad
Cindy Crawford has teamed with Pepsi to recreate her iconic soda ad.

The 50-year-old supermodel helped reinvent her 1992 commercial for the brand's new #SayItWithPepsi campaign. The updated Diet Pepsi ad features an emoji version of Crawford.

"The original spot was so great," the supermodel told CNN. "I think there's so much nostalgia for the commercial, so we decided to do it with a twist as a Pepsi emoji. It's fun to connect with a younger audience."

Crawford famously wore a pair of denim cutoffs in the original ad. The model told People she still owns and wears the shorts, and revealed she has other pieces saved for her 14-year-old daughter, Kaia Gerber.

"The shorts just get better," she told the magazine. "They were my own jeans, Levis 501s, that I bought and we cut off. Other than that, the oldest thing in my closet is an Azzedine Alaia jacket."

"I have saved pieces that I think might come back around," the star added. "I have things in there that I know that I will never wear about but that there might be a moment where [Kaia] can pull it out and pull it off and it would be fun for her."

Crawford and other PepsiMojis will appear on nearly half a billion bottles of Pepsi, Diet Pepsi and Pepsi MAX over the summer. The emojis are intended to encourage "unexpected conversations around the world," according to the Pepsi website.

Which singer quit Twitter and Instagram after criticism?

Demi Lovato is done with Twitter and Instagram.

The 23-year-old singer announced she's leaving the social media sites in a series of tweets Monday but told her 77.4 million followers she'll continue to post on Snapchat.

"Damn I gotta quit saying [expletive]. Bye Twitter. And insta," she wrote. "I like snapchat cause I don't have to see what some of y'all say. Follow me if you want: theddlovato."

"That one time I started my own charity providing mental heath care for people who can't afford it and this is what y'all talk about," the star added. "And people wonder what's wrong with the world. Pay more attention to good than bad."

Lovato's posts came just days after she faced heavy backlash for criticizing Mariah Carey. The singer slammed Carey on Instagram after a fan implied Ariana Grande is less talented than the 46-year-old star.

"You got it the wrong way around honey," she wrote. "Mariah is a legend and is so talented but constantly disses people. It's nasty the way she treats Jennifer [Lopez]. Ari did nothing wrong."

Carey herself didn't post or comment on the fan's meme, but has had a number of reported feuds with other stars. She addressed her supposed conflict with Lopez in May after famously declaring "I don't know her" in the 2000s.

"I can't believe people still make such a big deal of it," the star said. "I don't know her. Like, what am I supposed to say? I'm not going to put on a thing like, 'Oh, we're all Hollywood and let's just all pretend we're best friends.'"

Lovato will kick off her Future Now tour with Nick Jonas on June 29. The singer said she is "so excited" for the venture when she performed on Good Morning America last week.
