*-- Jeremy Renner confirms he secretly wed Sonni Pacheco --*

LOS ANGELES (UPI) - Jeremy Renner and Sonni Pacheco are married. The 43-year-old actor confirmed the news in an interview with Capitol File. Renner told the magazine he and his wife kept the wedding secret in order to protect their family from the inevitable intrusion by the press. "I have tried to protect my family's privacy, my wife's privacy," the actor related. "I don't need her to get hammered with my life. Privacy issues are important because I want her to go about her day without being bothered." "Paps follow me, that's fine. But it's annoying being followed when I'm with my family," he continued. "It's not just me -- everyone [in Hollywood] has to deal with that. I've been talked about a whole lot, because the less I put out there, the less people know, and it makes it interesting, I assume." Renner and Pacheco were an on-and-off couple for several years, and welcomed their first child, daughter Ava Berlin, in March 2013. The actor said he is grateful he waited to have children until after he established a career, but considers himself a family man first now that Ava is here. "It's the best thing I have ever done -- doing it later on in life," he declared. "Now I can really spend time with the family. The only thing I think about when I'm not with my baby is, 'How do I get to my baby?' I need to get to her, and I'm very miserable when I don't see her." "I really love being a father," he shared. "I still work, probably even more. It used to be for myself so I'm not old and broke. All these things I still do, but I do it now for the future of my baby, and if it gets in the way of her well-being, then I stop." Renner will next appear alongside Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Michael Sheen and Ray Liotta in Kill the Messenger. The film tells the story of real-life investigative journalist Gary Webb, and opens in theaters October 10.

*-- Sarah Hyland gets restraining order against ex Matt Prokop --*

LOS ANGELES (UPI) - Mordern Family star Sarah Hyland obtained a temporary restraining order against her ex-boyfriend Matt Prokop about one month after it was revealed the two ended their five-year relationship. In court documents obtained by TMZ, Hyland recounted an instance in which Prokop came to her show's set, pinned her against a car in the parking lot, then began insulting and choking her. "His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak. I was scared and in fear for my life," the actress says in the documents. Hyland reportedly told Julie Bowen -- who plays her mother on the show -- that she knew she was in an abusive relationship and asked her for help to "peacefully end the relationship." She then asked Prokop to come over to her house one night, but he allegedly ran outside "screaming" when he saw Bowen and others in the house. The actress said in the documents Prokop also threatened to set her house on fire and "relentlessly bombarded me with vile, threatening and emotionally disturbing texts and voice mails including his own suicide threats" after their breakup. Hyland said Prokop entered a rehab facility in August, but left on Sept. 21 and that she received a call from the center advising her to get a restraining order against her ex. A judge granted her the temporary restraining order, which requires Prokop to stay at least 100 yards away from her and her dog. The actress' lawyer confirmed the news to Us Weekly, adding that "the documents filed speak for themselves."

*-- 'True Detective' Season 2 to star Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell --*

LOS ANGELES (UPI) - Colin Farrell is to play a compromised detective and Vince Vaughn a career criminal in Season 2 of the anthology series True Detective, HBO announced. Farrell had previously revealed his involvement in the small-screen drama, but the cable network did not officially confirm the casting for the eight-episode, second season until Tuesday. Production on the sophomore season of the show is to begin later this fall in California, with Justin Lin directing the first two episodes. The program was created and written by Nic Pizzolatto. "Three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the after-math of a murder," a Season 2 synopsis teased. Each season of the series is expected to feature a different set of characters and setting.

*-- Bear Grylls proposed to wife while skinny-dipping in ocean --*

LONDON (UPI) - Bear Grylls' proposal to wife Shara Knight involved skinny-dipping, butt cheeks and seaweed. The 40-year-old survivalist recounted the tale during an appearance on Piers Morgan's Life Stories. Grylls is known for his sense of adventure and resourcefulness, and utilized both when he proposed while skinny-dipping in the ocean. "I pulled out the ring from my butt cheeks," he recalled. "She was standing there going, 'What are you doing?' She was in a towel and a massive Atlantic roller came and I went, 'Will you...' -- and it went -- took me up to the beach." "I had all the seaweed and I was spinning around," he related. "So I tried it again and in this sort of moment of heavy sedation she said yes." Grylls and Knight have been married since 2000, and have three sons: Jesse, Marmaduke and Huckleberry. The adventurer currently stars on Running Wild with Bear Grylls, a reality series that sees him take celebrities into the wild for 48 hours. The program recently finished its first season on NBC.
