TRIVIA TODAY - Wednesday, July 20, 2011

Greetings Infomaniacs,

I always wondered what it would be like to have a twin, especially a sister who looks like me. Would it be like having a conversation with myself? Would it be weird to have people confusing me with my sister all the time?

I used to read the Sweet Valley Twin book series growing up, and many times the twin sisters Jessica and Elizabeth would pretend to be each other to trick people. I always thought that would be a lot of fun (although not very nice, of course)!

I also wondered if we would have our own language or that sixth sense to tell us if the other one was in trouble. Well, guess all I can do is wonder about it, but I can also share with you some fun facts about twins...

Enjoy!
Melissa

TODAY'S MYSTERY QUOTE

QUOTE: "There are two things in life for which we are never truly prepared: twins."

HINT: (1818-1885), 19th century American humorist who wrote in an informal voice full of the slang of the day, with often eccentric phonetic spelling, dispensing wit and folksy common-sense wisdom.

RANDOM TIDBITS

One in 250 pregnancies result in identical twins.

The average twin pregnancy lasts only 37 weeks, while the average single pregnancy lasts 40 weeks.

If the mother herself is a fraternal twin, she is five times more likely to have twins.

Twins have been known to develop their own dialect, or language. This is known as "cryptophasia", and only they can understand what is being said.

The term "twin" derives from the ancient German word "twine" meaning "two together".

Because identical twins developed from the same split egg and were fertilized by the same sperm, they share exact matches of their DNA.
