TRIVIA TODAY - Monday, October 17, 2011

Greetings Infomaniacs,

Over the weekend, we celebrated my friend Stacy's 30th birthday, and dragged out the fire pit for a night of smores and stories around the campfire. This is when my friends and I always end up having a debate about camping.

Two of my friends, Janet and Jen, love to go camping and take multiple camping trips a year. Stacy and I, on the other hand, would much rather sit on the beach around a campfire...and then go back to the Hilton for a shower and a comfy bed. We are just not nature girls. Janet and Jen just cannot understand why we don't enjoy camping, and they always try to convince us to try it again.

I personally don't enjoy it because it's so much work to set everything up and then you have to sleep a little too close to nature for my liking. If this is supposed to be like a vacation, I don't want to do the work of setting up and taking down. Call me lazy, but I just want to relax.

Anyway, I got off on a tangent there, but the point is that a firepit in someone's backyard is my favorite part of the camping experience - and the only one I care to have!

Enjoy!
Melissa

TODAY'S MYSTERY QUOTE

QUOTE: "Cherish all your happy moments: they make a fine cushion for old age."

HINT: (1890-1957), American journalist, novelist, essayist and poet.

RANDOM TIDBITS

The name pumpkin originated from "pepon" â?? the Greek word for "large melon."

In early colonial times, pumpkins were used as an ingredient for the crust of pies, not the filling.

Pumpkins were once recommended for removing freckles and curing snake bites.

Native Americans flattened strips of pumpkins, dried them and made mats.

The largest pumpkin pie ever made was over five feet in diameter and weighed over 350 pounds. It used 80 pounds of cooked pumpkin, 36 pounds of sugar, 12 dozen eggs and took six hours to bake.

Pumpkins are fruit and they contain potassium and Vitamin A. Pumpkins are 90 percent water.

Blue to red and brown to green,
I change the color of objects as you may have seen.
Though of their natural color some things I deprive,
Without me living things could not survive.

What am I?
