TRIVIA TODAY - Wednesday, June 12, 2013
Greetings Infomaniacs,Apparently, I missed the fact that last Friday was National Doughnut Day! According to ABCNews, this holiday was established by the Salvation Army in 1938 to raise funds during the Great Depression and honor the "lassies," as they called the female volunteers.
The volunteers supported the soldiers on the front line during World War I by serving them meals and doughnuts. Approximately 250 "lassies" provided assistance to American soldiers in France in 1917.
Many national chains offered free doughnuts to celebrate. So, if you missed it this year, be sure to mark it on your calendar for next year!
Enjoy!
