TRIVIA TODAY - Monday, June 13, 2011

Greetings Infomaniacs,

Over the weekend, I celebrated my one-year anniversary with my new kidney. I can't believe it's been a year already since I had my transplant. I received a kidney from my very generous cousin Dawn, so to celebrate, I went over to her house with a cake to visit.

We had a great time, and of course my boyfriend and I ended up in the pool with her two kids. Somehow, we always end up playing and acting like big kids when we're with them. But hey, it keeps us young, right?

Enjoy!

TODAY'S MYSTERY QUOTE

QUOTE: "We shall not cease from exploration and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time."

HINT: (1888-1965), American-born English poet, playwright, and literary critic, arguably the most important English-language poet of the 20th century.

RANDOM TIDBITS

The top of the tower of the Empire State Building was originally intended (though never used) as a mooring place for dirigibles.

The name of the first airplane flown at Kitty Hawk by the Wright Brothers was Bird of Prey. The maiden flight of the Bird of Prey was less than a flight - the plane stayed in the air only long enough to sail 59 feet.

Charles Lindbergh was not the first man to fly the Atlantic. He was the sixty-seventh. The first sixty-six made the crossing in dirigibles and twin-engine mail planes. Lindbergh was the first to make the flight alone.

Castor oil is used as a lubricant in jet planes.

An airplane uses more fuel flying at 25,000 feet than at 30,000 feet. The higher it flies, the thinner the atmosphere and the less atmospheric resistance it must buck.

Houdini was the first man to fly an airplane solo in Australia.

Lindbergh & Earhart

Few heroes of today could match the excitement of Lindbergh crossing the Atlantic by himself in 1927. Then came the first famous female aviator, Amelia Earhart. This clip shows both of them in the full bloom of youth.

*** Weekly Mind-Scrambler ***

Discovered in Africa, I spread like a tide
To become a hot staple known the world wide.
A necessity to some, a treasure to many,
I'm best enjoyed among pleasant company.

Some like me hot and some like me cold.
Some prefer mild, others only bold.
Some take me straight, while some like to savor
My essence to which has been added a flavor.

So put down your cares and sit awhile with me;
I'll send you back refreshed and full of energy.
