TRIVIA TODAY - Monday, July 20, 2015
Greetings Infomaniacs,
I've been doing Zumba dance classes at my gym for quite some time. Zumba is a dance fitness program that combines Latin music with plenty of fun moves that make the hour-long class fly by!
I am excited to bring the instructor from my gym to the library tonight for a special Zumba session. Hopefully, a lot of people show up to try out some dance moves and see what the Latin craze is all about! If not, hey, I'll still bust some moves in the library... I have no shame!
Enjoy!

WHO SAID IT?
QUOTE: "Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity."
HINT: (1917-1963), was an American politician who served as the 35th President of the United States from January 1961 until his assassination in November 1963.
RANDOM TIDBITS
Zumba was created by Alberto "Beto" Perez, an aerobics instructor in Cali, Colombia, when he forgot his workout music for a class. He improvised with some salsa and merengue tapes he happened to have in his backpack, and the class was an instant hit!
At first, Perez conducted nine to 10 classes a week, and then it took off in Bogota, Colombia. When he took Zumba to the US, it didn't catch on at first. However, one fitness director in Miami finally gave him a chance and by the end of the class, the room was full. The rest is history!
The word Zumba is Colombian slang for buzz like a bee or move very fast.
Even though Zumba is a relatively new fitness craze, it's actually been around since the mid-90s.
The dance steps in Zumba are inspired by a wide array of musical influences, including cumbia, salsa, merengue, mambo, flamenco, chachacha, reggaeton, soca, samba, belly dancing, bhangra, hip hop, axe music, and tango.
It is estimated that participants in a Zumba class can burn anywhere between 500-1,000 calories in one hour, although this depends on the individual and the level of exertion.
