Apple's iPod is now 13 years old, having debuted on Oct. 23, 2001.

The first iPod cost $399 when introduced. It had 5 GB of storage - worth about 1,000 songs - and only connected with Macs.

The iPod Shuffle is the only version still made featuring the famous wheel.

The iPod Mini was the first version to come in different colors - a total of five.

While the iPod was introduced in October 2001, the iTunes software launched 10 months earlier on January 9. The actual iTunes Store did not launch until 2003.

The fifth generation iPod Nano was the first iPod to have a built-in camera.
