* Keep your gas tank filled up - Obviously, you don't want
to be left out in the freezing cold because you ran out of
gas! A full tank also keeps gas lines from freezing and helps
your vehicle perform its best during the winter season.

* Protect your engine - A high-performance synthetic motor
oil has better low temperature fluidity and a lower
coefficient of friction than mineral-based motor oils,
meaning easier start-ups on cold weather days. Remember to
change your oil regularly!

* Check tires for proper pressure and wear - Who wants to
drive on slick roads with worn tires? Not me! Have your
tires examined for remaining tread life, uneven wearing, and
any cuts or nicks. Also check your tire pressure and rotate
as recommended.

* Check wipers and use a winter formula windshield washer
fluid - Visibility can become an issue during severe winter
weather, so be sure to check the condition of your wiper
blades and replace them as needed. Don't forget to stock up
on winter-formula windshield washer solvent and have an ice
scraper on hand!

* Check battery life and terminals - Bitterly cold mornings
are bad enough without adding a dead car battery to the mix.
Replace your battery if it is past its recommended service
date, top any low battery cells with distilled water, and
clean and tighten battery terminals.

* Maintain car?s coat - Salt and other materials used to
reduce slick on roadways can have ill effects on your car?s
coat. It?s important to stay on a regular cycle of washing
and waxing to prevent rust and unnecessary erosion of the
car?s paint.

* Check antifreeze levels - Check the amount of antifreeze
concentration in your radiator -antifreeze should be flushed
and refilled every two years. While you?re at it, examine
hoses and belts for wear and tear.

* Keep essential tools on board - Be sure to leave room in
your vehicle for essential winter items, including: a spare
tire, ice scraper, hammer, de-icer, flashlight, small broom,
etc. in case of an unexpected need.
