A winter coat is essential if you live in a cold climate. But, just because they are essential doesn't mean you to settle. If your outwear is the right style for your body, it can be really flattering!

Think about where you will be wearing this coat. If you spend all day in a office, or at a high end job, then a fancier coat may be what you need. If you spend your day taking kids places, or working at a more active job, you'll want a sportier coat instead. Think hard about what you will be doing in your free time as well. Sometimes, buying 2 coats for different occasions can really improve your style! Also, remember that you will probably be laying clothes under the coat as well, so take that into consideration.

Finding the right size is important. There are a lot of things to consider when buying a coat. You can have most coats tailored a bit, hemmed, etc. But the size of the coat is the most important aspect. Find on that is flattering to you and have a shape that works for you!

If you want a coat that will make you feel taller, try a coat that hits no lower than an inch above your knee. It will elongate your leg line.

If you need a little help creating curves, try a belted coat. The belts will cinch in the waist, creating a feminine hourglass shape.

If you're worried about looking top-heavy, try a single-breasted coat instead.

If you're worried about looking bottom heavy, try an A-line coat instead.

If you have broad shoulders or a large bust, look for a coat with a V-neck.

As tempting as it may be to purchase a coat over the internet to save some money, don't. If you're going to spend the money on a good winter coat, try it on first! Make sure you can move comfortably in it. Make sure that it fits the way you want to look! You cannot do that if you purchase a coat online!
