Greetings Thrifty Friends,

What do you think you waste the most money on? Instant lottery tickets? Tobacco? Movies? Video games? New clothes?

A new survey by www.hloom.com indicates that that most Americans' biggest money-waster is probably something we don't think we're wasting money on at all. But the truth is; there is more room for saving in this category than any other.

Keep pinchin' those pennies,
Penny

TODAY'S THRIFTY TIP:

According to a new study from Hloom, it's clear where most of our wasteful spending is going: food.

Americans' excess spending on food doesn't just come from eating out at restaurants, but from "convenience packaging" purchases, and actually throwing out or wasting the food we purchase from the grocery store. In all, there are potentially thousands of dollars to be saved every year by changing our consumption habits.

The Hloom study says, "the majority of Americans say they waste money on unnecessary expenses: too many restaurant meals, wasted groceries, and credit card interest charges."

According to the study, "One fewer restaurant meal per week can save over $600 a year."

Interestingly enough; the next biggest expenditure after food? Alcohol! Maybe skip that martini or whiskey sour before dinner. It's better for you anyway.
