'The Blind Side' DVD

Sandra Bullock gives a fine performance in this uplifting,
feel-good sports drama based on a true story. The movie
is a dramatization of the life of Michael Oher (played by
Quinton Aaron), who is currently an offensive tackle for
the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League. Bullock
portrays Leigh Anne Tuohy, a well-to-do woman living in
Memphis with her husband (Tim McGraw) and their two kids.
The story is that the white Tuohy family adopts Michael, a
homeless black teenager, and provides him with a supportive
environment while he develops as a football player.

'Brothers' DVD

Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal and Natalie Portman star in
this drama, a remake of a 2004 Danish film. Sam (Maguire)
is a US Marine who goes off to the war in Afghanistan. He
is reported killed, leaving his wife Grace (Portman) and
their two daughters grief-stricken. Sam's brother Tommy
(Gyllenhaal), just released from prison, tries to help out,
falling for Grace in the process. But it turns out Sam wasn't
killed, though he was captured and tortured. He returns home
a shattered man, and he, Tommy and Grace struggle to deal
with the situation. The director was Jim Sheridan.

'The Men Who Stare at Goats' DVD

George Clooney and Ewan McGregor star in this offbeat comedy,
and Jeff Bridges and Kevin Spacey play supporting roles. The
movie is based loosely on Jon Ronson's nonfiction book about
the US military's attempts to use parapsychology against
enemies. The film, which marks the directorial debut of Grant
Heslov, follows a Michigan journalist (McGregor) who travels
to Kuwait. There he meets Cassady (Clooney), who takes him
on a mission to Iraq. The journalist has adventures and
learns about the New Earth Army, which tries to use psychic
powers for military purposes.
