Greetings Bible Enthusiast!

Joe S. had some questions about giants, always an interesting topic! The Bible talks about giants several times. Probably the most famous giant was Goliath, who is described as being nine and a half feet tall, certainly a giant by any standards!

Genesis shows a relationship between giants and angels, (see Bible verse below) and Paul refers to it in Corinthians. We will look into this relationship more this week.

The reality of giants is validated by their common presence in the ancient tales of many cultures. Will giants reappear on the earth? That is a question that only the passage of time will answer.

God Bless You!

--DAILY BIBLE VERSE:

There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.

Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Genesis 6:4-5

"Sons of God" refers to angels, specifically in this case, fallen angels or demons, and "those days" refers to the time before the flood. Interestingly, the word king means "big man" in many ancient languages. Verse 5 is one of the most emphatic verses in the Bible, it can hardly be stated in stronger terms. Read all of chapter 6 to get a clear understanding of how displeasing all of this was to God.

--TODAY'S DAILY NOT SO TRIVIAL TRIVIA QUESTION:

Q. How much did Goliath's coat of mail and his spearhead weigh?

Answer below.

-ANSWER TO TRIVIA QUESTION:

Q. How much did Goliath's coat of mail and his spearhead weigh?

A. 156 pounds and 19 pounds

And a champion went out from the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, from Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span. He had a bronze helmet on his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail, and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of bronze...

Now the staff of his spear was like a weaver's beam, and his iron spearhead weighed six hundred shekels.

1 Samuel 17:4-7

One shekel weighed about one half ounce, making about 32 shekels per pound. Therefore 5000 shekels would be about 156 pounds, and 600 shekels about 19 pounds.

Clearly Goliath was not only tall but brawny as well, a mighty warrior of the Philistines. Imagine walking around with a coat of mail weighing 156 pounds!! He must have been a massive bulk of a man.
