As a careful, encouraging parent I had looked forward to helping teach my only daughter the fundamentals of softball. One Saturday morning in April it was finally warm enough to begin. I had her stand about 15 feet from me and explained how she had to watch the ball all the way into her glove. The FIRST time I easily lobbed it to her she raised her glove hand to catch - maybe a little too high. The ball glanced off of her glove and hit her squarely in the mouth. It knocked a tooth out. She screamed, dropping the glove on her way into the house, "I thought softball was supposed to be FUN!".
