Luke 2:15-16

So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into
heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, "Let us
now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to
pass, which the Lord has made known to us." And they
came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe
lying in a manger

Greetings Bible Enthusiast!

As you may have noticed, each day I am giving you scriptures
which tell of Jesus' birth, as well as giving you the origins
of Christmas traditions.

Mistletoe! Two hundred years before Jesus' birth, the Druids
used mistletoe to celebrate the coming of winter. They would
gather this evergreen plant in order to decorate their homes.
They believed that it had special healing powers. Scand-
inavians also thought of mistletoe as a plant of peace and
harmony, associating it with their goddess of love, Frigga.
Many believe that the custom of kissing under the mistletoe
derived from this belief. The early church banned the use
of mistletoe in Christmas celebrations because of its pagan
origins. Holly was suggested as an appropriate substitute for
Christmas greenery. There is nothing in the Bible about the
use of Mistletoe or Holly surrounding Jesus' birth.

God Bless You!
