Saturday, April 21, 2012Hello Everyone...
I was doin my daily internet browsing and happened to find out that there was a documentary made about the Punch Brothers, called How To Grow A Band (came out a week ago!) but it's a low-budget limited release thing, so it may not be easy to find at your local theater. This band features Chris Thile as vocalist and today's greatest mandolin player (that I'm aware of) okay...I guess I only know of Thile and Ricky Skaggs. But still - this guy is great.
This home-grown country-bluegrass band has a wealth of influences and tastes that venture outside their narrow genres. For example, today's video is a rousing cover of The Strokes' hit song Reptilia. A wonderfully arranged bluegrass version complete with banjo, violin, stand-up bass...and my favorite: mandolin. Enjoy!
