Saturday, January 14, 2012Hello Everyone...
I happened to catch a rare episode of Letterman a while ago, and the band White Flag was the musical act. The lead singer, Carrie Brownstein, looked eerily familiar, and it turned out to be Fred Armison's companion in their IFC sketch comedy show, Portlandia. Upon further research, it turned out that the lead singer was a founding member of Sleater-Kinney, an all-girl pop punk band that broke up only a few years ago. In this song, Romance, I don't particularly care for the punchy Iggy Pop-esque vocals during the verses, but the whirlwind chorus more than makes up for that. Brownstein's quirky and deadpan humor carries over from the IFC show, and delivers a strange video with controlled chaos and animal masks.
