This week let's take a journey back in time to 79 AD. The
Roman city of Pompeii is a thriving cultural center rich
with commerce and art. Towering Mount Vesuvius, never having
shown any activity in their recorded history, provided a
dramatic but benign backdrop to the Pompeians' daily lives.

That is until a fateful day in August when the volcano
erupted so suddenly and so violently that the entire city
was buried in a virtual moment under a thick layer of ash...
preserving for centuries a snapshot of city life at the
height of the Roman Empire.
