Before writing the screenplay for 'Dr. Strangelove' as a satire, Stanley Kubrick studied over forty military and political research books. He decided that a "serious treatment" of the subject of war would skim over his more salient points. He then decided to try to "treat the story as a nightmare comedy."


Bonus Fact:

Because of its depiction of teenage violence, 'A Clockwork Orange' (1971) became one of the most controversial films of the decade, and part of an ongoing debate about violence in cinema.
