Stem Cells & Breast Implants: A New Partnership?

Getting breast implants continues to be one of the most
popular forms of plastic surgery today. However, this
procedure is not without its downside. The traditional
silicone and water methods available are widely known to
have issues when it comes to leaks, which can lead to other
health complications. The latest medical advancements out of
Japan have produced what is quickly becoming known as the
next step in breast implant surgery: stem cell implants.

So why all the hype over a new type of implant? For one
thing, this particular method combines both stem cells and
fat cells that come from a woman?s own body. In the past
there have been breast implants created just from the fat
taken from a part of a woman?s body, but these have been
notorious for high failure rates. After Japanese surgeon
Kotaro Yoshimura added stem cells into the equation, he
found a formula for success. Stem cells have the incredible
ability to change into any type of cell within the human
body. When put together with fat into the breasts, the cells
are able to support new growth of natural fat and tissue
cells. This results in not only a larger bust size, but
implants that actually feel more natural.

It goes without saying that traditional breast implants are
often noticeable for being ?too perfect? in shape and size
but this is not the case when it comes to stem cell and fat
based implants. The end results are breasts that appear more
natural in appearance and even feel smoother, compared to
traditional implants. Because the stem cells and fat come
from the woman herself, this further emphasizes the fact
that this procedure is more ?natural? in nature than using
silicone or water based implants.

Aside from the standard requirements potential patients
should meet in order to be an ideal candidate for this
procedure, it is also important that there is a sufficient
amount of fat on the thighs and buttocks, which are the two
main areas where the fat and stem cells are taken in order
to create the implants.

So far this technique has been highly popular in Japan and
so well received in Germany, that the country?s medical
authorities have allowed the stem cell breast implant
procedure to be available and legal throughout all of Europe.
Even though the idea of using stem cells to produce natural
breast implants is promising and so far has gotten support
from surgeons around the globe, there has yet to be any long
term studies conducted to ensure that this procedure is
indeed safe for female patients. The women that have
undergone this type of surgery have not reported any
difficulties or complications, which is promising.
