*** A WORD FROM THE KITCHEN ***

Tired of the same old burgers? We usually load up the spare
freezer extra early with plenty of meats to last through
the summer grilling season....seriously including a box of 100
frozen wholesale burger patties we've found to be quite good.
We've been doing that for years now and I've decided to forgo
this year to experiment with more homemade kinds. I've come
across so many different flavored and stuffed versions I thought
we would do something different. Oh, the others are certainly
convenient enough - especially for those impromptu BBQs but
I'm looking to break out. For example it's interesting what a
little bottle of picante sauce can do to ZEST up a burger.
Next time you need a great grilling idea you've gotta try
these SIMPLE SALSA BURGERS and add your favorite Tex-Mex
toppings in the bun for some food fun. Go hot or mild and
your kids will also go wild for these.

Enjoy!

GROUND BEEF BITS:

Packages ground meats are typically high in fat because
the butcher doesn't normally trim away the excess fat
before grinding...sometimes even extra pieces of fat are
added into the meat. These days you can look for specially
marked lower fat packages and the lower the fat percentage,
the less your meat will shrink when cooking. It is best to
avoid ground meats that are more than 15% fat by weight.

What about ground turkey? Don't automatically assume it is
better for you than ground beef. Available now nationwide,
ground turkey is typically made from grinding together the
dark meat, skin and fat. These products can be just as high
in fat but can be a great healthy choice as long as you
check the labels.
