The Daily Show's John Oliver Is Engaged...
A July trip to the Caribbean was more than just a summer vacation
for John Oliver and Kate Norley.
"We were in St. Thomas on holiday," when John decided to pop the
question to his girlfriend of two years, he revealed Saturday at
Comedy Central's "Night Of Too Many Stars: An Overbooked Concert
For Autism Education."
The couple, who met in 2008 at the Republican National Convention,
John was covering, Norley was campaigning ? were friends first.
"I finally made a move," Kate, an Iraq War vet, laughingly admits.
"I got seduced," adds John.
Life has changed since her time on active duty, and Kate is now
enjoying a slower pace of life.
"I was a medic in the Army," she explains. "It was difficult,
butright now it's nice that I get to spend time with the love
of my life."
"It's the most emasculating thing I could possibly do to go out
with someone who has actually done something valuable with their
life," John adds jokingly.
"He's got a forum," Kate says on a more serious note. "We still
have troops on the ground. No matter whether there are two or
200,000, we have to make sure our hearts and minds are with what
they're doing."
The couple plan to wed "some time next year."

Britney Spears? Conservatorship Set to End...
Britney Spears? conservatorship is likely to end within the next
three months, according to reports.
A source close to the situation says: ?Britney has made tremendous
progress in the past three to four months. She seems to be firmly
in control again.?
Britney allegedly met privately with Los Angeles Superior Court
Judge Reva Goetz on Thursday morning in the judge?s chambers.
The next conservatorship hearing is on Oct. 14.
The source described how Britney?s attorney, Sam Imgham, was also
present at the 35-minute meeting, while Judge Goetz met with her
dad Jamie Spears and her therapist separately.
The conservatorship has been in place since February 2008, after
Britney was hospitalized at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute.
?Britney essentially has joint custody of the boys with Kevin.
They co-parent them,? the source said. ?Her boys are simply the
most important thing in the world to her.
?Britney also will be releasing an album in 2011, and there are
other projects in the works. Britney knows that she came close
to losing everything before, and she doesn?t want that to happen
again.?

Whoopi Goldberg empathizes with Mel Gibson...
Whoopi Goldberg admits she can empathize with Mel Gibson in light
of his recent personal problems, insisting she would be in trouble
if anyone recorded her own foul-mouthed rants and leaked them to
the media.
Mel has hit headlines in recent weeks after his split from ex-
girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva turned nasty and became public when
audio recordings of their arguments surfaced online.
In the now infamous rants, Mel can be heard raging at his partner
and hurling expletives, and Whoopi admits her own curse-laden
temper-tantrums would also shock the public if they were ever
heard.
She comments, "I can't defend someone who got angry like that but
we all get angry. I've cussed people out. I hope no one finds
those tapes."

Joaquin Phoenix 'wanted out' of 'I'm Still Here'
Joaquin Phoenix was desperate to quit work on his hoax documentary
"I'm Still Here" after the first few months of pretending he was a
wannabe rapper, because he longed for a return to normal life.
Joaquin stunned fans in 2008 by announcing he was quitting acting
to forge a new career as a rapper and hit headlines with a series
of strange stunts, including a appearance on David Letterman's
talk show and falling off stage at his first gig.
It was all filmed by his brother-in-law Casey Affleck for their new
film "I'm Still Here" and Joaquin recently confirmed the whole
project was a hoax.
He now admits he found it tough to keep up his bizarre new persona
during filming and almost gave up because he was so desperate to
get back to reality.
Joaquin says, "To be frank, we were kind of hostage to the process.
There were times, honestly, where I wanted out. Even on a
conventional film, I'm done after four months. But this went on
and on."

Ali Larter Celebrates Her Baby Shower...
With a couple of months to go, Ali Larter got an early start on
prepping for motherhood by celebrating her baby shower Saturday
at a pal's house in Los Angeles.
"It was an incredible day and I just felt so lucky to be
surrounded by so many dear friends and family," Ali, who's
expecting a boy, comments. "It was a very special day!"
Along with friends Amy Smart (who co-hosted the shower), Busy
Philipps and Nicole Sullivan, Ali enjoyed the afternoon shower
designed by David Stark and presented by Target and Baby Buggy.
"We wanted a very worldly and natural feel," explains Ali. "It
was very earthy." Her actor/writer husband, Hayes MacArthur,
even made a post-golf stop at the all-ladies shower. "Everyone
was excited to see him," adds Ali.
In honor of "Baby Mac," Ali and Hayes's affectionate name for
their baby-on-the-way, Target will donate strollers, diapers
and select pieces from the upcoming Petite Trésor for Target
collection to benefit Baby Buggy's mission of supporting
families in need.
"As a mother-to-be, I quickly realized how expensive it is to
prepare for my new addition," notes Ali. "Unfortunately, there
are many mothers who cannot afford the necessities such as
cribs, clothing and diapers so I'm honored to be able to help
mothers through my shower."
She will continue to donate through her Ali Larter for Baby
Buggy registry on target.com, where the public can purchase
items to be sent to mothers in need. In addition, a financial
donation has been made in honor of Ali, to Project
Peanut Butter, an organization which helps malnourished
children in Africa.
"To feel this life growing inside of me grounds me every day
and really puts things into perspective about what's important
in life. It really is your health and your family."
