Cher's son Chaz Bono has called off his engagement and split from his longtime girlfriend.
The transgender star, who was born a girl, proposed to Jennifer Elia in 2009, but the pair put its wedding plans on hold while the reality TV star underwent extensive gender reassignment surgery.
Chaz cemented their engagement by presenting Elia with a diamond ring during a birthday trip to Washington last month, but now the couple has decided to call it quits.
Chaz's representative, Howard Bragman, reveals, "They leave this relationship with great love, respect and affection toward one another. No further amplification will be forthcoming and they ask that you respect their privacy at this time."

Gomez cancels concerts as mom suffers miscarriage...
Teen pop star Selena Gomez has axed two Christmas concerts over the weekend after her mother suffered a miscarriage.
The Disney star was ecstatic when her mother Mandy Teefey revealed she was expecting a sibling for the star last month.
Selena wrote on Twitter after hearing the news, "Momma and (stepfather) Brian are finally letting me share the news. My mommy's carrying my baby brother or sister. I'm the happiest girl in the world."
But now Selena has dropped her scheduled performances to support her family after her mom reportedly lost the baby on Saturday.
She was due to perform at the B96 Jingle Bash 2011 at the Allstate Arena near Chicago, Illinois on Saturday, and on Sunday at 106.1 KISS FM's Jingle Bell Bash in Seattle, Washington.
Selena's representative revealed she had axed the shows due to a "family emergency" and confirmed her mom had suffered a miscarriage.
James Franco embroiled in college lawsuit...
Studious James Franco has been dragged into a legal battle over allegations a teacher at a university was fired after giving the star a bad grade.
Jose Angel Santana, who taught the "Spider-Man" actor at New York University (NYU) has filed a lawsuit against the institution, claiming he was unfairly dismissed from his teaching job.
The 58 year old alleges his firing came not long after he handed the Oscar nominee a 'D' grade for allegedly missing some of his classes.
He comments, "The school has bent over backwards to create a Franco-friendly environment, that's for sure. The university has done everything in its power to curry favor with James Franco... In my opinion, they've turned the NYU graduate film degree into swag for James Franco's purposes, a possession, something you can buy."
Santana has filed legal papers at Manhattan Supreme Court in New York in a bid to win his job back.

Pop star Rihanna struggled through illness to perform in Portugal on Saturday and even ran off stage mid-set to vomit.
The Bajan beauty sang her hits to a sell-out crowd at Lisbon's Atlantico Arena, but the audience was left baffled when she disappeared during her performance of "What's My Name?"
She took to her Twitter account after the gig to explain the incident, revealing she was feeling unwell during the concert.
In a series of posts, she writes, "Portugal tonight was legendary!!! I ran off stage to throw up, halfway thru (through) What's My Name... made it back juuuust (sic) in time for Rude Boy."
Rihanna appeared to be feeling better on Sunday and told fans, "We just had our end of year/tour Christmas party!!!! We turned it into an 80's prom, since I've never had one! It was sooo (sic) much fun!!! I'm decked out in lace, sequins, a giant bow, and hair spray!!!!"
Kobe Bryant�s wife files for divorce...
Basketball superstar Kobe Bryant's wife has filed for divorce.
Vanessa Bryant, who stood by her husband during an infidelity scandal in 2003, filed divorce papers in Orange County, California on Friday. She cited irreconcilable differences.
The Bryants have been married for 10 years and have two young daughters.
A statement from the couple through a representative reads, "The Bryants have resolved all issues incident to their divorce privately with the assistance of counsel and a judgment dissolving their marital status will be entered in 2012. We ask that in the interest of our young children and in light of the upcoming holiday season the public respect our privacy during this most difficult time."
