Madonna will team up with Cirque du Soleil for her performance at the prestigious 2012 Super Bowl Halftime Show.
The pop icon will follow in the footsteps of stars including Tom Petty, Sir Paul McCartney, The Who and Bruce Springsteen to headline the big game's mid-point spectacular.
Madonna's representatives have confirmed the news after months of speculation and revealed Madonna will be working with a creative team from circus group Cirque du Soleil for the performance.
A statement reads, "We are happy to confirm that Madonna will perform in the Bridgestone Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Sunday, February 5... The Material Girl has partnered with a creative team from Cirque du Soleil, Jamie King, and multimedia artists from Moment Factory, to create a signature performance for the Super Bowl's Halftime Show, which will be broadcast worldwide."
Madonna previously agreed to play the Super Bowl in 2000 but was forced to pull out due to a scheduling conflict.

Johnny Depp bodyguard accused of injuring gig-goer...
One of Johnny Depp's bodyguards has been accused of injuring a woman at an Iggy Pop concert after she strayed too close to the actor, according to a report.
Robyn Ecker, 52, has filed a police report alleging she was tackled to the ground by a security guard who was looking after the star during the gig at Los Angeles' Palladium on Thursday night, according to reports.
Ecker claims the unnamed bodyguard grabbed her wrists and forced her to the ground after she accidentally got too close to the star, who was seated beside her.
She was subsequently admitted to hospital to treat her alleged injuries and filed a police report about the incident.

Zooey Deschanel suffered a sprained wrist this summer after falling asleep on her arm during a flight.
The "(500) Days of Summer" actress was traveling overnight to New York but the sleepy star hurt herself in a freak incident on-board.
She tells chat show host Conan O'Brien, "Over the summer - this is so weird. I was on a plane, a red-eye to New York, and I put the tray down and I was tired of sleeping like this (leaning back) so I decided to sleep like this (on my arm), like a romantic comedy poster.
"I fell asleep so hard I bent my wrist back and when I woke up I had an injury. I had sprained (my right wrist)... I am accident prone, but this was just too embarrassing."

Actress-turned-TV personality Rosie O'Donnell is planning a Christmas wedding after becoming engaged to girlfriend Michelle Rounds.
The 49-year-old comedian told her "Rosie Show" studio audience that she and Michelle will exchange vows during the holidays.
The couple has been dating since the summer and together they went public with their romance in September at the Rosie Theater Kids Gala in New York.
Rosie and ex-wife Kelli Carpenter ended their three-year marriage last year.
Lauren Scruggs Severely Injured in Plane Propeller Accident...
Lauren Scruggs, a fashion model and blogger who had worked in the wardrobe department of Gossip Girl, lost her left hand and suffered severe facial injuries after she accidentally walked into a spinning airplane propeller in Texas on Saturday.
Lauren, 23, who runs the fashion blog LOLO, was climbing out of a two-seater plane at a private airport in McKinney, Texas when the accident happened.
Lauren had been flying around the state to look at Christmas lights. Her hand was later amputated by surgeons and the FAA is investigating the accident.
She also sustained severe head and shoulder injuries during the mishap, according to a family spokesperson who posted on the website Caring Bridge.
"After exiting a propeller plane, an accident occurred where she walked into the front of the prop," the post reads. "Struck on the left side of her body, Lauren's hand, head, and shoulder area were hit."
An update on the site Monday afternoon said Lauren was recovering from multiple emergency operations.
"Lauren's surgery went very well this morning," according to the statement. "She is now resting in ICU with the family. She is able to open her right eye to see while her left eye is still bandaged. Please continue to pray for the vision of her left eye, as we will not know the status of her sight for some time."

The beauty launched the reality TV competition show in 2003 and has since developed a reputation as a confident and sassy pioneer in the modeling industry, but Banks insists it's all an act for the cameras - because she's shy and insecure in real life.
Speaking during CNN's TV special "Dinner with the Kings," which aired on Sunday, she said, "When I did my show, created my show or whatever, I also created a persona on Top Model. And it's a character. So when I'm sitting there and I have all this make-up on, and I'm like, 'Your picture's not fierce...' talking all that and reprimanding the girls, that is a character.
"I don't do that, like, in real life; I'm passive aggressive. I'm anti-confrontational; I'm even in coaching to learn how to be confrontational.
"So it's a character, but people think it's real. I'm so not sexy. I know how to turn it on for a picture but I'm not sexy in real life."
