Rose McGowan pens piece in defense of Renee Zellweger
Actress Rose McGowan penned a guest column for The Hollywood Reporter in defense of Renee Zellweger.
McGowan's piece was a response to a June 30 article by Variety's new movie critic, Owen Gleiberman, titled "Renee Zellweger: If she no longer looks like herself has she become a different actress?" Gleiberman wrote about the controversy surrounding Zellweger's cosmetic surgery after seeing the trailer for her new movie Bridget Jones's Baby.
After Zellweger walked a red carpet event in 2014 with a noticeablydifferent look, comments began to roll in on her decision to have the procedure.
Now with the trailer for the new Bridget Jones film out, Zellweger is once again facing criticism for her makeover.
McGowan, who has been vocal in social activism and in defense of her own cosmetic surgery, took issue with Gleiberman's comments and wrote a piece published Wednesday admonishing him and supporting Zellweger.
"What you are doing is vile, damaging, stupid and cruel. It also reels of status quo white-male privilege," she wrote.
LOOSE LIPS:
"I would like to thank my sneakers, my neighbors in little Ethiopia, my alarm clock, my four-day old blueberry muffin I ate, and my sense of panic at being out of shape."

Sarah Silverman 'lucky to be alive' after severe throat infection
Comedienne and actress Sarah Silverman told followers on Facebook she's "insanely lucky to be alive" after spending a week in the intensive care unit for a severe throat infection.
Silverman, 45, went to the doctor for a sore throat last week and was diagnosed with epiglottitis, when a small, swollen piece of cartilage blocks the windpipe and can cause to respiratory failure, according to the Mayo Clinic.
She thanked her close friends and family and the medical staff for their support while she was treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
"I was in the ICU all of last week and I am insanely lucky to be alive," her post began. "Don't even know why I went to the doctor, it was just a sore throat. But I had a freak case of epiglottitis."
"They couldn't put me fully to sleep for the recovery process because my blood pressure's too low," she continued. "I was drugged just enough to not feel the pain and have no idea what was happening or where I was. They had to have my hands restrained to keep me from pulling out my breathing tube. My friend Stephanie said I kept writing 'was I in an accident?' "
Silverman said she was sedated for five days, but when she woke the sense of humor automatically kicked in.
"I still couldn't talk and they gave me a board of letters to communicate," she wrote. "My loved ones stood there, so curious what was going to be the first thing I had to say. They followed my finger, rapt, as I pointed from letter to letter until I finally spelled out, 'Did you see Hello My Name is Doris.' "

Which '80s hair metal rocker is facing jail time following an altercation in Vegas involving Nicolas Cage?
Motley Crue frontman Vince Neil could be looking at jail time following an incident at a Las Vegas hotel in April that involved actor Nicolas Cage.
Neil, sources say, met with Cage for lunch at the Aria hotel earlier this year when a woman approached Cage looking for an autograph. That's when Neil grabbed the woman by the hair and threw her to the ground.
Neil claims he was pushing past her after she became aggressive. Police say there is hotel security video of the incident.
Once outside the hotel, Neil and Cage got into an argument of their own which was recorded by paparazzi. Cage is seen attempting to restrain Neil and yelling for him to stop.
Neil is being charged with misdemeanor battery which could carry a six month sentence if convicted.
His first court appearance is scheduled for July 27.
