Robin Williams dead from apparent suicide

Oscar winning actor and comedian Robin Williams died Monday morning at the age of 63. Although an official cause of death has not yet been released, the Marin County Coroner's office confirmed there is suspicion Williams died of "suicide due to asphyxia." He was discovered at his home in Tiburon around 11:55 a.m. PST and pronounced dead at the scene. Williams' publicist issued the following statement on Monday: "Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time."
Williams' last Twitter and Instagram posts were dated July 31, wishing daughter Zelda Rae a happy 25th birthday: "Quarter of a century old today but always my baby girl. Happy Birthday Zelda Williams. Love you!" Williams won an Academy Award in 1997 for his film with Matt Damon, Good Will Hunting and that same year was declared by Entertainment Weekly "the funniest man alive." Williams was also the winner of two Emmy Award, four Golden Globes, two Screen Actors Guild Awards and five Grammy Awards. He received three additional Oscar nominations for his roles in The Fisher King (1991), Dead Poets Society (1989) and Good Morning, Vietnam (1987). The third installment of Night at the Museum, in which Williams plays President Theodore Roosevelt, is scheduled to be released in December.

Williams is survived by his third wife Susan Schneider and three children: Zachary Pym (31) from his first marriage to Valerie Velardi, and Zelda Rae (25) and Cody Alan (22) from his second marriage to Marsha Garces.


Billy Joel sings 'Uptown Girl' to ex Christie Brinkley in NYC

Billy Joel serenaded his ex wife Christie Brinkley while performing a show at Madison Square Garden on August 7 in New York City. A YouTube video shared by a fan on Friday finds Joel pointing out at Brinkley, who was in the crowd, while singing his iconic track, "Uptown Girl." The 65-year-old Piano Man and the model were married for nine years before their August 1994 divorce. They have a 25-year-old daughter named Alexa Ray Joel. Brinkley, 60, appeared in the original video for "Uptown Girl" in 1983 two years before she married the singer. While at the show, the model took to Instagram to share a photo of herself and her daughter in the audience and titled it: "He's still got it." Joel announced he'd be playing one monthly show at Madison Square Garden starting December 2013. "Playing Madison Square Garden is an experience that never gets old," Joel said at the time. "A show a month at the Garden for as long as there's demand means more opportunities to connect with music fans and provides a unique and memorable show every time we play here."

Ashlee Simpson enjoys pool-side bridal shower with sister Jessica

Ashlee Simpson celebrated her bridal shower at her sister Jessica Simpson's Los Angeles home over the weekend. Jessica shared a couple of snapshots of the celebration on Instagram Monday night, where she showcased attendees posing by the pool and showed off her toned body in a black one-piece swimsuit. "All the beauties celebrating @ashleesimpsonofficial / @missbananahammock!!! I love you Ash :)" the fashion designer captioned the first photo.
"Oh yea girl...We are proud to be in our bathing suits!! @baylormcg #hardworkpaysoff #workoutpartnersforlife," Jessica wrote along another photo.

Ashlee got engaged to Diana Ross' son Evan Ross in January. The pair, together since July of 2013, threw an engagement party in March. There is no word on when they're planning to wed. The marriage would be Ashlee's second as she previously tied the knot to Fall Out Boy rocker Pete Wentz in 2008. They have a son, Bronx Mowgli Wentz, born in November 2008.


'Rare pic' of The Beatles sans Ringo Starr to be auctioned

A "rare" photo of The Beatles playing in Liverpool's Cavern Club without Ringo Starr is set to be auctioned later this month along with other never-before-seen pictures of the band. The Mirror reports the photo without Starr was taken in 1961, one year before he replaced Pete Best as the rummer of the band. Paul McCartney appears at the front of group in the photo with John Lennon and George Harrison by his side. Stephen Bailey, The Beatles Shop manager in Liverpool, said the photos where brought to the store by a man who said: "My father was a professional photographer and these might be of interest to you." The man reportedly turned in a series of negatives with photos that ended up being in perfect condition. According to Bailey's findings, the image that features Best instead of Starr was taken on June 14, 1961, when the band played its first show upon returning from Hamburg. Baily said there would be 330 lots at the auction, including the photo without Starr and the first, second and third editions of Merseybeat magazine. He expects the pictures to bring in somewhere around 1,500 pounds and the magazines to go for 2,500 to 3,000 pounds.
