Philippians 4:4-8

Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Let
your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and
supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made
known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all
understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through
Christ Jesus.

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things
are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure,
whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report,
if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy-
meditate on these things.

Greetings Bible Enthusiast!

How does one guard one's heart? To guard means to watch over,
to defend, to protect. The best way we can protect and defend
ourselves spiritually is, as Paul said, "to put on the full
armor of God that we may be able to stand against the wiles
of the devil, and then, having done all, to stand." (see
Ephesians 6:11-18)

He goes on to explain what this means and how it is done; we
must take an active part! Part of this armor is "the sword of
the Spirit, which is the word of God;" the more we know, the
greater our strength.

Taking up the sword of the Spirit means studying, learning,
accepting, and obeying the Word of God; it takes diligent
effort and prayer on our part.

We are to rejoice, not worry, and pray! Even though we have
used the verses in Philippians 4 recently, they fit so per-
fectly in today's note that we couldn't resist using them
again, so don't miss the Bible verse below!

God Bless You!

--ANSWER TO TRIVIA QUESTION:

Q. With what acts of hospitality did Abraham greet the
Lord and the two angels when they appeared to him?

A. washing of feet, offering of rest and food

So he (Abraham) lifted his eyes and looked, and behold,
three men were standing by him; and when he saw them, he
ran from the tent door to meet them, and bowed himself to
the ground, and said,

"My Lord, if I have now found favor in Your sight, do not
pass on by Your servant. Please let a little water be brought,
and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under a tree. And I
will bring a morsel of bread, that you may refresh your hearts.
After that you may pass by inasmuch as you have come to your
servant."

They said, "Do as you have said."

Genesis 18:2-5

Notice all these physical activities: washing of the feet,
eating, and resting under the tree.
