Hi Everyone,
Remember awhile back when I suggested to donate old newspapers, towels, and little stuffed animals to your local animal shelter for those cute and cuddly animals still waiting for homes? Well, Kathy from Indiana wrote in another great idea. She has found out by her that nursing home love donations as well. They love receiving stuffed animals, dolls, small picture frames, vases, etc. They use them as prizes for the elderly when playing bingo, and other games. Obviously, they should be cleaned and in good shape.
Thanks, Kathy, for sharing such a great idea. This brings back so many good memories of when I would visit my Grandma and she would always have something for me before I left. Whether it was a little stuffed animal she won from playing bingo, or a bowl that she glued marbles to. By the way, I still have the little stuffed yellow dog, I keep it in my car on the drivers side door arm rest.
Handy Hints Holly
Email Holly Visit The Archives Hint 1: I ran a tip a week or two ago about using the water after boiling eggs for your plants around the house.
Eve writes in: After boiling eggs and keeping the water
for my plants is a given; however, I do the same thing with
the water after boiling potatoes. The plants love the potassium!
Thanks, Eve, I'll remember that next time I make mashed
potatoes :)
Hint 2: This hint is for all you people that live alone out
there, like myself.
I believe that I have never heard this hint before but it has saved me considerable money in more ways than one, I live alone and can rarely use a gallon of milk before it went bad, so I experimented with freezing it. I found that frozen in pint size containers and thawed within 2 weeks it can be used if shaken vigorously to rehomonize it as it tends to separate a little as time goes by. The longer it is frozen the more the cream separates. This has save me time and gas as well as the price they charge for the smaller size milk.
- Submitted by KarenThanks, Karen, I will have to try this. I, too, have a hard
time going through a gallon of milk before the expiration date. Well, to be honest I tend to throw it out before the expiration date, I'm a bit goofy when it comes to milk - I always think it smells bad.
