Happy Star Wars Day! For those of you not quite so wrapped up in geek culture, Star Wars Day is a very unofficial holiday celebrated by more rabid Star Wars fans because of an unfortunate play on the movie catchphrase "May the Force be with you". Because today you can say to people "May the Fourth be with you."

Today's Random Fact:

Depending on what movie you're watching, Yoda has a different number of toes. In The Phantom Menace, Yoda has three toes. But in The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and Revenge of the Sith, he has four.

The opening crawl for the original movie (which was cribbed from the Flash Gordon serials that also inspired the film) was done practically, by carefully placing 2-foot-wide die cut yellow letters over a 6-foot-long black paper background with a camera making a slow pass over them to mimic the crawl. In total, it took three hours to shoot.

Bonus Fact:

The Star Wars expanded universe encompasses all of the officially licensed, fictional material of the Star Wars saga, outside of the seven feature films, The Clone Wars film and series, and Rebels series produced by Lucasfilm. The expanded universe includes books, comic books, video games, toys, television films and other assorted media.

In 2014, following the acquisition of Lucasfilm by The Walt Disney Company in November 2012, it was announced that all previously released expanded universe content would be declared non-canon and rebranded as Star Wars Legends.
