'Blade Runner 2049' director Denis Villeneuve in talks to helm 'Dune' reboot
Director Denis Villeneuve is being eyed to helm an upcoming reboot of Dune for Legendary.

According to Variety, the studio prior to Thanksgiving acquired the rights to the iconic novel of the same name with options to produce films or television projects.

Interest in Villeneuve handling Dune comes as the 49-year-old is preparing Blade Runner 2049, a sequel to another classic sci-fi series. That film starring Ryan Gosling and a returning Harrison Ford released its first trailer Monday.

Dune, which tackles themes of politics religion and nature, follows main protagonist Paul Atreides whose family controls the desert planet Arrakis, the only producer of a highly-valuable resource. Once the family is betrayed, Atreides leads a rebellion to take the planet back.

The property was first adapted into a 1984 film directed by David Lynch. Although originally a critical and commercial failure, the picture is now considered a cult-classic.

Avril Lavigne calls out Mark Zuckerberg for Nickelback diss
Avril Lavigne wasn't amused by Mark Zuckerberg's recent joke about Nickelback.

The 32-year-old Canadian singer accused Zuckerberg of "promoting bullying" in a post Thursday after the Facebook founder poked fun at Nickelback, her estranged husband Chad Kroeger's band.

"Dear Mark," Lavigne wrote. "Many people use your products - some people love them and some people don't. Either way, you're allowed your musical opinion however, your jab at Nickelback is in poor taste."

"When you have a voice like yours, you may want to consider being more responsible with promoting bullying, especially given what's going on in the world today," she added. "#SayNoToBullying #TheJokeIsOld #NickelbackHasSoldOver50MillionAlbums."

Zuckerberg had dissed Nickelback in a video introducing his home AI assistant, Jarvis, this week. He asked Jarvis to play "some good Nickelback songs" in the promo, prompting a less-than-flattering response.

"I'm sorry, Mark. I'm afraid I can't do that. There are no good Nickelback songs," the program answers.

"Good! That was actually a test," the Facebook founder says. "How about just play some songs that our whole family likes?"

Lavigne and Kroeger announced their separation in September 2015 after two years of marriage. The couple sparked reconciliation rumors in March after they reunited in the studio, and attended the Juno Awards together the next month.

"It is with a heavy heart that Chad and I announce our separation today," Lavigne said at the time of their split. "We are still, and forever will be, the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other."

LOOSE LIPS:
"No matter what I do, I'm not going to look 20 or 30. I just want to look great for 50. I exercise, eat healthy and take really good care of my skin. There's pressure on women to do the undoable, which is not age. But it's about looking great for however old you are, regardless of what that number is."

Brad Pitt says Angelina Jolie has compromised kids' privacy
Brad Pitt says Angelina Jolie has compromised their kids' privacy since their highly-publicized split.

The 53-year-old actor's lawyers filed a motion this week asking a judge to seal records regarding Pitt's children with Jolie, claiming the 41-year-old actress has "exposed" their six kids in their ongoing divorce.

"[Angelina] exposed the children by making public the names of their therapists and other mental health professionals," Pitt's attorneys claim in new court documents obtained by E! News.

"[Angelina] appears to be determined to ignore even agreed upon standards relating to the children's best interest and she is attempting to clear the way to put in the public eye any allegations she can, without regard to the impact on the minor children."

"[Angelina] apparently has no self-regulating mechanism to preclude sensitive information from being placed in the public record, or she has other motives," the lawyers suggested.

Jolie has filed unsealed documents, including her temporary custody arrangement with Pitt, since their split, according to TMZ. Pitt's request for an emergency order to seal documents pertaining to the divorce was denied earlier this month.

"Angelina has consistently made public statements and public filings throughout this process. [Brad] has not," a source told People at the time.

"He wants to do what is in the best interests of his children, and his entire family, including her, frankly. And that is to keep this private," the insider added.

Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt in September after two years of marriage and a decade together. The pair share 15-year-old Maddox, 13-year-old Pax, 11-year-old Zahara, 10-year-old Shiloh and 8-year-old Vivienne and Knox.

Which world-famous author revealed that she has two new novels in the works?

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling revealed on social media that she is hard at work on two new novels.

Rowling outed the new projects while answering a fan's question on Twitter about whether or not there are new books on the horizon.

"I'm working on it (literally)," Rowling tweeted before noting to another fan, "I'm always working on a novel. It's my thing."

Twitter users then started to speculate whether this meant new Harry Potter books were on the way, with one fan asking if it would be a novel based on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them protagonist Newt Scamander.

"No, no, no. There won't be Newt Scamander novels. Only movies. Calm down, there!" she wrote.

In a separate tweet, Rowling then revealed that one novel will be released under her name while another will feature her pen name, Robert Galbraith. "I'm not sure which will come out first. I'll let you know as soon as I do!" the 51-year-old stated.

According to Time, the Galbraith novel will presumably be the fourth entry in her Cormoran Strike series following the 2015 release of Career of Evil.
