Hello Everyone...

Not sure how many of my readers are fans of rap - I'm not even that big a fan. I don't think I can name even 10 rap songs that I really truly love listening to. One song that came out that I got completely hooked on is a more recent song by newly-signed Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. These independent artists are only the 2nd band in the history of music to reach the Billboard #1 spot while being unsigned to any major label. My brother actually introduced them to me, since they weren't on my radar at all!

The song is called Thriftshop. It's got millions of views on Youtube, was on all the major radio stations for quite some time, and made these unknowns into internet superstars. It's so popular that even other independent artists began to cover the tune, putting their own spin on it. Here's a really cool "vintage" cover that strips all the hip hop elements from the song and incorporates elements of swing, jazz, and even ragtime. Don't worry, they cleaned up the lyrics a bit - but I encourage you to listen to the original since it's so much fun!
