'Facts of Life' star Lisa Whelchel returns to TV as a 'Survivor'

Lisa Whelchel, best known for her role as Blair Warner on the '80s television show 'The Facts of Life,' headlines the cast of 'Survivor: Philippines,' which premieres Wednesday, September 19 on CBS. The former teen actress will join 17 other castaways, including retired MLB player Jeff Kent and three returning players (to be revealed Wednesday), to compete for $1 million and the title of Sole Survivor. 'I'm a huge, huge fan and have been from Season 1. I haven't missed an episode. I love the game and was born to play it,' Whelchel shared with Yahoo! TV while on location during filming. 'I never wanted to do reality TV, but this doesn't feel like reality TV. This feels like having an adventure that I've always wanted to have. Even if this weren't filmed, I would want to do it. It just happened that it's filmed and put on television and I use to be on television.'

Phyllis Diller dies at age 95

Pioneering female standup comedian Phyllis Diller died in Los Angeles at age 95, her agent said. The comedian who created a stage persona of a wild-haired, eccentrically dressed housewife who makes self-deprecating jokes about her age and appearance, was recovering from a fall and had been sick the last few months. She died Monday surrounded by her family, Fred Wostbrock told NBC News. He did not release the cause of her death. 'It is a great loss,' he told the network. 'She was a true pioneer and the first lady of standup. She paved the way for Chelsea Handler, Roseanne Barr, Joan Rivers and Ellen DeGeneres. She was the best - the first female standup to play Vegas. She was on Broadway, she made movies, she did it all.'

The X Factor wants Mel B in England

Singer-songwriter Melanie Brown has been offered a job judging the British version of 'The X Factor' realty TV talent show if she leaves the Australian version. The brutal honesty and withering put-downs the former Spice Girl, known as 'Scary Spice,' gave to auditioners impressed executives at show-creator Simon Cowell's Syco Television so much that she became their first choice for this year's talent contest, the British tabloid The Sun reported. But Brown, 37, was committed to completing the Australian 'X Factor' season with judges Australian singer-songwriter Guy Sebastian, Irish recording artist Ronan Keating and Australian actress Natalie Bassingthwaighte. The British version signed Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger to join British singer-songwriter Tulisa Contostavlos for this season, the newspaper said. But Syco TV still wants 'Mel B' for 2013, a source told the newspaper. 'Mel was our first choice,' the source said. 'She was so quick and honest. You can't let everyone down gently or the praise is meaningless. 'There's a lot of money on the table for her next year.'

Wynonna Judd postponed Canadian concerts

Wynonna Judd postponed Canadian concerts next week after her husband Michael 'Cactus' Moser was injured in a South Dakota motorcycle accident, the U.S. country music singer said. Judd said she would reschedule the concerts in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Aug. 21; Regina, Saskatchewan, Aug. 22; Carlylye, Saskatchewan, Aug. 24 and Llyodminster, Saskatchewan, Aug. 25. Her next concert after that is in Peshawbestow, Mich., about 20 miles north of Traverse City, Aug. 30. Moser, 55, of Nashville, was riding a motorcycle on State Highway 16 in the isolated Black Hills mountain range Saturday when he crossed the center line and hit the driver's side door of a southbound Chevrolet Malibu driven by Michael Bruce, 59, of Rapid City, the South Dakota Highway Patrol said. Moser was airlifted to Rapid City Regional Hospital with injuries police Lt. David Berkley said were serious but not life-threatening, the Rapid City Journal reported. *

It's Michael J. Fox.

NBC has made it official: Michael J. Fox is coming back to series TV more than a decade after he left to concentrate on fighting Parkinson's disease. His new comedy series, based loosely on his personal life, has a 22-episode commitment from NBC and is set to premiere in fall 2013, the network announced Monday. The single-camera comedy, thus far untitled, will feature Fox as a husband and father of three from New York City who is dealing with family, career and challenges that include Parkinson's, the network said.
