Hoffman dead of apparent drug overdose -- police

U.S. actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead Sunday of an apparent drug overdose in his New York apartment, police sources told CNN. The Oscar-winning Hoffman, 46, was found in the bathroom of the fourth-floor Manhattan apartment, the sources told CNN. Investigators found a syringe in his arm and an envelope containing what may be heroin, an unnamed official told the New York Times. It's pretty apparent that it was an overdose," the official told the newspaper. "The syringe was in his arm." Hoffman won the Academy Award for Best Actor for 2005's "Capote," portraying writer Truman Capote. The Times said Hoffman had undergone treatment for drug addiction in the past, but said he had fallen "off the wagon" last year after being sober for 23 years.

Reality star and designer Kristin Cavallari has announced that she and husband Jay Cutler are expecting a baby boy. "We decided to announce that we're having another boy," Cavallari, 27, said on Instagram Saturday. Cavallari and Cutler, a Chicago Bears quarterback, found out the sex of the baby over the holidays, People reported. The couple has a 17-month-old son, Camden Jack. "Of course I want a little girl, but another boy would be a ton of fun too, so I really don't care either way," she said in November. "There's great things about both."

Leno sad to see 'Tonight' moving back to N.Y.

Late-night comic Jay Leno said he's "kind of sad" to see "The Tonight Show" leaving its longtime home in Burbank, Calif., for new digs in New York. Leno, who is leaving "Tonight" this month for a second time, said he understands the move but will miss the laid back vibe Southern California gave the No. 1 rated late night comedy show in America. "New York is the bustling city and blah, blah, blah," Leno told the Los Angeles Times. "All the excitement's there, all the movie studios, they start their big campaigns in New York. So now it's going back. ... It's kind of sad to see happen." NBC announced four years ago Leno would be replaced by "Late Late Show" host and Saturday Night Live" alum Jimmy Fallon, who is scheduled to take over the coveted chair -- once occupied by comedy icon Johnny Carson -- after NBC returns to regular programming following the Winter Olympics. The show moved from New York to Burbank when Carson took over in 1962. Local officials said they will be sad to see Leno leave because he'd become a fixture in the community."'The Tonight Show' put Burbank on the map," said Burbank Mayor Emily Gabel-Luddy. "We stole 'The Tonight Show' from New York originally, and I guess they're stealing it back. "The real impact is the loss of tradition and that's what our community is feeling. We see Jay Leno around town, he participates in our car shows, he drives around our streets and he's been part of the community ever since he's been here doing 'The Tonight Show.' People really love that."

Woody Allen fires back at adopted daughter's allegations

Woody Allen's representatives are vehemently denying the New York filmmaker sexually abused his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow when she was a child. "Untrue," "disgraceful" and "tragic" were among their comments after Farrow, 28, repeated her allegations against Allen in a detailed open letter to the New York Times website during the weekend. She also criticized Hollywood for honoring the 78-year-old "Blue Jasmine" and "Annie Hall" filmmaker with so many accolades. The father and daughter have been estranged since Allen left Farrow's mother Mia in 1992 to pursue a romance with Farrow's adopted 19-year-old daughter, Soon-Yi Previn. Allen and Previn married in 1997 and have two adopted daughters of their own. "Mr. Allen has read the article and found it untrue and disgraceful," Allen's publicist, Leslee Dart said in a statement to the New York Daily News Sunday. "At the time, a thorough investigation was conducted by court-appointed independent experts," Dart said. "The experts concluded there was no credible evidence of molestation; that Dylan Farrow had an inability to distinguish between fantasy and reality; and that Dylan Farrow had likely been coached by her mother, Mia Farrow. No charges were ever filed." "It is tragic that after 20 years, a story engineered by a vengeful lover resurfaces after it was fully vetted and rejected by independent authorities," Allen's lawyer, Elkan Abramowitz, told the Daily News. "The one to blame for Dylan's distress is neither Dylan nor Woody." The Farrows first made the allegations against Allen during a custody battle over Dylan, her adopted brother Moses and her brother Ronan, the only biological child of Mia Farrow and Woody Allen, who has never been charged with any crime. The Daily News reported Connecticut prosecutor Frank Maco said in 1993 he believed Allen molested his daughter, but decided not to charge him to avoid putting Dylan through the trauma of a trial. The statute of limitations for charging Allen has since run out, the report said. "I love and support my sister and I think her words speak for themselves," Ronan, who is now an MSNBC personality, said on Twitter Sunday.
