Hope everyone had a great long weekend we're wiped out
and I'm still a little stuffed but I started working
out too so it cancels out the sampling I did! We
didn't make it to the Taste of Chicago but I had
some taste of my own. I'd have to say the highlight
even above the fireworks n' things was that ice cream
jaunt for that spumoni flavored gelato here I just
loooooove. Jubby won't let me take a quart home
for the freezer he says it's only special occasion
stuff and we have to make the official trip for it
but he knows I'd devour it soon as we got it home
that's the real reason ;o)
It's still steaming hot out here and I hope you
enjoy this cool-off recipe it couldn't be more
simple but really hits the spot as a beat-the-heat-
treat!

RECIPE: PITCHER OF FROZEN STRAWBERRY LEMONADE

INGREDIENTS:
2 cups ice cubes
1 cup water
6 Large fresh strawberries - stems and hulls removed
6 ounce can Frozen lemonade concentrate
DIRECTIONS:
Place water, ice cubes and lemonade concentrate in a
blender. Blend until the ice is completely crushed.
Add strawberries and give another blend to incorporate.

ICE PACK IDEAS FOR SUMMER
Fill small ziploc freezer bags with water, freeze and
use as needed (solid ice block).
Clean empty plastic pop bottles, fill 3/4 full with water,
twist cap back on and place in freezer. Take out and use
as needed.
Wash empty milk cartons, fill with water, close carton
and freeze (leave room for ice expansion).
For kids you can freeze juice boxes the night before
an outing and just toss in a cooler or lunch bag and
allow a little time to thaw when ready. Or buy reuseable
plastic drink boxes, fill with juice and freeze overnight
(leave room when frozen juice expands). Great school
lunch packing idea too.
