'New Girl' and 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' will air a crossover episode this fall
Two of Fox's biggest hits will join forces for a crossover episode this fall, the network announced Monday.

Network execs told a panel at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour New Girl and Brooklyn Nine-Nine will come together in a one hour episode which will air on Fox Oct. 11.

The shows, which are in their sixth and fourth seasons, respectively, will share an undisclosed storyline, set in New York.

"The crossover episode has historically been the artistic high point of any show that has dared to attempt it," said New Girl creator Elizabeth Meriwether.

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine crossing over with New Girl is very exciting, but (and this is supposed to be a secret) it's just the first step," Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-creator Dan Goor also said.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine airs after New Girl on Fox on Tuesdays.

LOOSE LIPS:
"The reality is I haven't lost a pound this year. In fact, I'm actually heavier than I was three years ago, but I accept my body as it is today. I work out not to lose weight but to maintain my good health."

'Man of Steel' sequel in active development at Warner Bros., according to report
A Man of Steel sequel featuring Henry Cavill as Superman is reportedly in the works at Warner Bros.

According to The Wrap citing sources close to the project, the DC Comics studio has put Man of Steel 2 into active development as Superman is considered a top priority.

Cavill fist starred as The Last Son of Krypton in 2013's Superman reboot Man of Steel, directed by Zack Snyder. The movie earned $668 million globally and planted the seeds for DC's cinematic extended universe.

Man of Steel was then followed up in March by quasi-sequel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which brought Superman and Batman (Ben Affleck) together on screen for the first time, along with Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot). The three heroes are set to team up again alongside The Flash (Ezra Miller) Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) in Snyder's next film, Justice League.

A proper Man of Steel sequel would allow Warner Bros. to focus on a Superman solo-adventure without the need to feature other heroes. Superman mainstays Lois Lane (Amy Adams), Perry White (Laurence Fishburne) and Martha Kent (Diane Lane) would also most likely return.

Back in April, Warner Bros. added release dates for two unnamed DC extended universe films for Oct. 5, 2018 and Nov. 1, 2019. A Man of Steel sequel could be slotted into one of those dates or sometime later as the studio is also developing a Batman solo film set to be directed by Affleck.

Warner Bros. was also eyeing a potential Suicide Squad sequel that could fit into one of the mystery dates. Suicide Squad opened Friday and set new box office records for August, earning 135.1 million in receipts.

'Rogue One' trailer to premiere Thursday; Jimmy Smits confirmed to return for 'cameo'
Jimmy Smits confirmed on The Talk that he will appear in the upcoming Star Wars standalone movie Rogue One, which is due in theaters in December.

The news came as the program's hosts showed a frozen image from the film that seemed to back up buzz that he will reprise his role of Bail Organa.

Smits initially attempted to dodge the question about his possible return Friday, saying: "People got nothing better to do then to look at these little things? There's stuff going on in the world!"

Eventually, he relented.

"Can you say the word 'cameo?' Can you say the words 'small part?'" he teased with a laugh.

Fans can look for Smits when the trailer for Rogue One premieres during Thursday's Olympics coverage.

"See the premiere of the new #RogueOne trailer during Olympic coverage this Thursday," the official Star Wars account tweeted Sunday.

Smits played the part of Galactic Republic politician and Princess Leia's adoptive father in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, the second and third prequels in the Star Wars franchise. Rogue One will feature Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Forest Whitaker and Mads Mikkelsen.

Which two cast members are exiting 'Saturday Night Live'?

Taran Killam and Jay Pharoah are departing Saturday Night Live after starring on the famed sketch comedy series for six years.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, who confirmed the news, the duo will not be seen on the show's upcoming 42nd season to pursue other opportunities.

Pharoah, who is best known for impersonating Jay Z, Will Smith, Eddie Murphy and President Barack Obama, may be leaving SNL in a tight spot as Season 42 starts airing during Obama's final days in office.

Killam who recently portrayed Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Matthew McConaughey and Donald Trump for a short spell, confirmed in an interview with Uproxx that his departure is due to SNL not picking up the final year on his seven-season contract.

"I had sort of had it in my head I would make this upcoming year my last year, but then heard they weren't going to pick up my contract," he said. "I was never given a reason why, really."

Part of the reason, the comedian believes, is due to his ongoing work on his upcoming directorial debut Why We're Killing Gunther. The comedy, revealed in May, follows a skilled assassin played by Arnold Schwarzenegger who is being targeted by his peers due to his arrogant attitude.

"I honestly don't know what happened on the other side, but I do know we had expressed I have work on this film and in bonding this picture, that has to get cleared with SNL," Killam continued. "My feeling about it is I got my dream job. I set out to be on SNL and I got to do that and I did very well. And I love and adore and will forever have close ties and tight bonds with the brilliant, smartest, funniest people I've ever met in my life. So, I have no gripes at all."

Saturday Night Live head Lorne Michaels is expected to introduce several new cast members to the show next month.
