Here's the Scoop...

It seems like every show that I watch is ending! Mike and Molly, Downton Abbey, American Idol, All in the Family, M*A*S*H, Perfect Strangers, Alf... sorry, I got a little confused there.

Well, at least I still have Person of Interest to watch.

Be Well,
Steve

Jennifer Connelly calls 'Labyrinth' co-star David Bowie a 'genius who had the time to be kind'
Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Connelly fondly remembered her Labyrinth co-star David Bowie, who died at the age of 69 Sunday after a secret, 18-month battle with cancer.

"I met David Bowie when I was 14 and he became a hero to me -- because he was an artist, and because he was a genius who had the time to be kind," the 45-year-old actress said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly.

"I'd never met such an extraordinary artist before, and I haven't since -- the world will be a greyer place without him. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones."

Directed by Jim Henson, penned by Terry Jones and executive produced by George Lucas, 1986's Labyrinth is a cult-classic, fantasy film starring Bowie as Jareth, the Goblin King, and Connelly as Sarah, the teen whose baby brother he abducts. The movie famously featured Bowie singing alongside puppet creations from Jim Henson's Creature Shop.

"Would I call myself the Mother Teresa of talk shows? The Dalai Lama of daytime? No. But I'm sure someone out there has."

CBS confirms: Melissa McCarthy sitcom 'Mike and Molly' canceled
CBS announced Tuesday that Mike and Molly, starring Melissa McCarthy and Billy Gardell, is in its final season.

The network's entertainment president, Glenn Geller, confirmed the cancellation at the Television Critics Association press tour, offering his respects to the family sitcom's cast and crew.

"Mike and Molly, listen, these decisions are really challenging, and I have a tremendous amount of respect for Chuck [Lorre], Al Higgins, Melissa, Billy -- the whole cast and crew," he said. "But I can confirm that this will be the last season of Mike and Molly."

News of the show's fate leaked in December, prompting those associated with the project to express strong feelings about the decision.

Actress Rondi Reed, who plays the mother to Gardell's character, Mike, posted on Facebook "Before you hear it elsewhere (and some already have) this is the final and 6th Season of Mike and Molly on CBS," she wrote.

"It is also a shortened season (13 episodes) after the announced full renewal of 22 episodes back in March by the network. We are done taping as of January 27th 2016 and I am not sure exactly when/if the episodes will be aired."

"I was shocked and heartbroken when @CBS canceled #MikeAndMolly," star McCarthy, who rose to A-list status since the show's launch in 2010, wrote on Twitter Dec. 14. "I would have shot this show for 50 more years. I'll miss my 2nd family."

Co-star Gardell mirrored the sentiment on Twitter, writing "Thank you everyone who supported us."

Mike and Molly will wrap production of its final episode on Feb. 1.

??? Guess Who ???

Which actress says that she's not the reason 'Downton Abbey' ended?

It's Maggie Smith! The 81-year-old actress talked to NPR's Morning Edition on Tuesday, three weeks after the ITV series' final episode. Smith had announced she would leave after Season 6 in May, causing some to speculate she influenced the show's decision to end completely.

"No -- this is absolutely not true," she said. "In fact, I phoned our dear producer Liz Trubridge the other day, and I said, 'Now, what is this? I'd heard that somebody had said...' -- it was the paper or something. And she said, 'No, that's absolutely rubbish.' I mean, it's come to its end."

Smith played dowager countess Violet Crawley on the series, with Hugh Bonneville as Robert Crawley, Elizabeth McGovern as Cora Crawley and Michelle Dockery as Mary Crawley. The series skyrocketed the cast to even greater fame, sometimes to the actress' surprise.

"I find it very odd to be recognized," the star said. "I've spent a very long time without that happening to me. And it's a very, very strange sensation ... Sometimes it's very nice. But sometimes, you just would like to be on your own, to do things on your own, without thinking about whether you're going to be stalked or asked to pose for one of those wretched cellphone things."

Downton Abbey completed Season 6 in November, and aired its final episode, the show's annual Christmas special, on Dec. 25. Smith joked about her future after the series in August, telling reporters, "I'm going to be lying down."

"I believe [I'll be lying down] for quite some time," she said. "The other thing I will be doing is watching it. I will get the box set and have a good look. I certainly haven't watched anything that I've done. I have seen some of it, but I want to sit down and look at it all."

Smith has won a number of awards, including two Oscars and three Emmys, for her contributions to the stage, television and film. She last appeared in The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel with Judi Dench, and will next star in The Lady in the Van with Alex Jennings.
