*-- How To Keep Your Hair Shiny --*

We wash our hair. We dye our hair. We bleach our hair. We style our hair with heated devices that just suck the moisture right out of it. When you think about all of the things that we actually put our hair through, is it no wonder that it gradually becomes dull as we put it through more and more torture? While we may like the finished product at first, if we do not take care to nourish our hair while making it endure all of these other things we leave it open to becoming dry and dull in the process. As we age, the hair itself becomes coarser and naturally less shiny too.

The good news is that we are able to restore that shine that we ever so desire. It all starts with the shampoo and conditioner that you are currently using. Take a good hard look at your shampoo and conditioner and see if it is appropriate for your hair. If you have dyed your hair, then you should not be using shampoo and conditioner for "normal" hair. If you have curly hair, you should not be using "volumizing" shampoo and conditioner. If you have greasy hair, you should not be using shampoos and conditioners that promise to infuse your hair with moisture.

The next thing to think about is how often you shampoo your hair. Believe it or not, but unless your hair has become extremely dirty the day before, you probably don't need to shampoo your hair every day. Every 2 to 3 days is the soonest you should ever need to step into the shower and shampoo your head.

After we wash our hair, we tend to break out the hair dryer and the hair straightener. When ever possible, allow your hair to simply air dry and appear as it naturally would (after you put in some product to help control it, of course). This helps prevent further damage from happening to your hair.

Another good way to help ensure that your hair remains shiny and doesn't dull is to maintain a proper diet. Always focus on eating plenty of fruits, a lot of vegetables, and a lot of grains. Leafy green vegetables, such as kale and spinach, are particularly good for your hair as they will give you a great boost in vitamin E and iron. These two nutrients are essential in having smooth and shiny hair. The omega fatty acids, specifically omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids, are important when it comes to making your hair very soft and shiny. You can obtain these fatty acids either by eating fish or taking supplements.

It's also important for anyone who wants shinier hair to drink plenty of water. A minimum of 6 to 8 glasses of water a day is essential in order to keep not only your hair shiny and smooth, but your skin smooth as well. For your overall well being and beauty, make sure that you drink a full glass of water every day, once at least every 1-2 hours a day.
