A recent story came out criticizing algae-based fuel for its environmental impact compared with other biomass fuels.
Algae-based biodiesel production uses more energy, in the form of petroleum-powered processes, than other biofuels and also requires substantial amounts of water and emits more greenhouse gases, said engineering professors from the University of Virginia.
However, there is more than one technology for growing and processing algae. According to the scientist in the video below, his closed-loop, photo bio-reactor solves all of the problems associated with growing algae.
So who is right? And if it works, why isn't it being exploited right now?
