Good morning,
I am a little phobic of household chemicals, although I admit
I do use some, like for cleaning soap scum out of the bathtub.
But whenever possible I avoid them, as much for my personal
health as for keeping from flushing them down the drain and
into the environment.
The one miracle product I discovered is distilled white
vinegar. Now that it is part of my daily life I don't know
how I ever lived without it.
The place I use it most is in the laundry room. Vinegar in
the laundry? Yes! It is a great deodorant, believe it or not,
and it has other benefits I never expected.

When I first read about the disinfecting and deodorizing
effect of vinegar I experimented by adding a cup or two to
my laundry along with the detergent.
The most startling result was the amount of suds it pro-
duced. I remember the first load I did with a full measure
of detergent plus vinegar had subs literally coming out of
the top of the machine!
There were so much suds I had to run the clothes through
the rinse cycle twice to get all of the suds out of the
water.
The more loads I did the less detergent I added until I
finally had the right combination to get the clothes
completely soap free with only one rinse cycle.
What I found is that I need barely a quarter of the amount
of detergent I would have used without adding vinegar. One
jug of liquid detergent now last me three to four months!
And my clothes get just as clean. Granted, I don't work out-
side and my clothes usually aren't caked in mud or grease,
but as far as normal stains and odors are concerned, it works
like a charm, even on workout clothes.
